first off, in the current hiring environment, I’m surprised anyone commutes for this place. If you’re going to (unwisely) commute for a career, there are plenty of options such as legacies or moving to base.

living In base, this news seems like a dream come true. Living in base here is already a dream come true. The quality of life is insane. Even when I barely had the seniority to hold a line, I just drop it all to zero and fly 200% trips and maybe a couple high-credit day trips, which I’ll also drop if the 200% pours in. Home in my own bed 28+ days a month crediting well over 100, routinely.

For some people, like those who live in spirit bases (particularly the FL bases), this is the best airline on the planet to be at, and this email only sweetens that deal. Not to mention the staffing this summer will have the X-list phone calls going nonstop.

Just trying to shed a little positive light, I’m aware that doing so is illegal on APC. We have such a pleasant/happy pilot group sometimes I wonder if it’s a different group of people on these forums :D

Go take a look at the snapshot of the x/y assignments. Almost all are FO. Take a look at some of the CA using your strategy. Very few and even then if you average their credit out on a monthly basis they aren’t making guarantee sometimes. Premium is very seat and base dependent. Many of us have seen plenty of long periods where there is no premium for anyone. Also a grid that turns red as soon as IOT is is closed. Enjoy those weekend 10hr three days that you can’t get rid of when that time comes again. You’re living in a fairy tale based on a single point in history. The reality check will come. You don’t make career decisions because you think you can drop everything for your entire career and ever more nutty thinking you’ll just magically get 200% pay trips on your empty schedule.

This^! FO red/green in base is ALL red! Good luck dropping after IOT. CA side on the other hand is all green by a lot, minus 1 day that is barely red. X list for CA’s is almost non existent in my base, unless you give up having a normal life. Kudos to the guys that do and need to live off the X list!

What bases are new hires getting lately?

With everything going on, how long to get DFW or LAS?

Thanks

You mean the LAS guys hired a month ago? They haven’t even seen the inside of a sim yet.

Skybound12 03-30-2022 09:41 AM

How quickly is one able to get ACY as a new hire? Is it fairly junior? Thanks!

Is it bad? It’s pretty neutral on the CA side between those coming and going based on the what ifs.

The last “what if” has 2 ACY and 5 LAS going to people still in training.

Maybe because when they wrote it the company was still on schedule to release the final what if?

Well… you don’t know that. They (company) simply hadn’t released ANY information, good or bad, at the time of his post.

They normally publish the results by end of day. They did publish at 1713 EDT - but it was "one of our abacuses broke - so results will be published any day now, (sigh) any day" :D

DrSteveBrule 03-30-2022 03:16 PM

Communication is not this company's strong suit, that's for sure.

It’s amazing how they can’t even see a few days in front of them. It’s like this closed and they were like “oh, this will take time”.

Which further reinforces the point that everyone expected it to be published by 5pm, and they understood that.

Not rushing the "displacement bid" and having to rescind it is ammo for a future contract? Sounded like they wanted to make sure no mistakes were made before its final.

Maybe after they go past their contractual 10 days after closing to post…

Basically this. As for how long on reserve, well prior to this displacement, I think it was July 2021 holding a line in FLL, LAS is still over a year out. That is all subject to change here this summer though as people move around the system.

Is it possible to hold ACY right out of training for a new
hire?

IWalkJun12 04-10-2022 02:57 PM

Livinthedream1 04-10-2022 03:41 PM

A simple yes or no would have sufficed.

a simple browse of page one to see that this has been answered about a dozen times would have sufficed.

You sound like you’ll be fun to fly with. Some of us say bad words on the flight deck too.

As an ACY captain, I'll answer your question. It used to be almost everyone had to come to ACY for a month or two. Since we've started hiring again after covid I have noticed people are waiting a few months to get the bottom ACY FO spot. In the last "what if" bid, LAS was junior. That doesn't mean anyone of those bottom pilots wanted ACY, but if they did, I don't think they would have gotten it. It's a great base, but upgrading here will take a long, long time. We have many captains commuting that want an ACY captain spot, but will probably have to wait quite a while. We have 3 retirements this year, and at least 4 or 5 guys that want back in, and 4 or 5 bypassing upgrade until they can get an ACY Captain spot.

Also, I highly doubt ACY will survive either merger.

I hope this helps.

Florida bases

Is it likely that FLL and MCO will remain junior bases for new joiners and does Spirit have a TPA base?

No TPA base.

AC has enough tools, it doesn’t need another one. Lighten up Francis. Sup RonnyK320 saw JK in LAS. Said you were doing well.

Is there employee parking at MCO? If so, does Spirit pay for parking passes?
