But that being said....aren't you at least a little suspicious of the messaging from NK management as well?

Personally, in my view the messaging from JB has been more inline with reality as well as most of what I have read online from various industry analysts.

There's no doubt gamesmanship is afoot!

Last I checked JB's upgrade time was just as fast as NK and JB's hiring plan for the year exceeded Spirit's on a percentage growth basis.

Things at both shops need improvement, but JB is far from stagnant.
