Yeah, let's just keep cancelling flights and taking on new airframes because we don't want to pay the pilots and continue to lose money every quarter. I want to slap the next person I fly with who says that Spirit is recession proof.

Actually, it’s a different scheme, a plot to get around antitrust issues with the JetBlue acquisition, because NK really has become too big to fail. If things get bad enough, all that anti-monopoly concern all goes away.

11 years ago, while still in bankruptcy, American Airlines was allowed to merge with US Airways despite route overlaps to become the biggest airline in the world with nary a concern for anti monopoly considerations.. The US government has paid billions to maintain the US airlines through COVID and it does nobody any good from an anti-monopoly standpoint to have NK disappear altogether. So current management can kind of run things into the ground and that only reinforces the fact that NK needs to be in the hands of better management.

And once B6 takes over and ashcans the abysmally low first year pay, the recruiting and retention will improve.

Love the ironic post. Like management has been slowly pushing our airline into losses the last few years to ensure DOJ approval for a merger. Sure. That’s it. 🙄

In a slight defense of the ULCC model you have to admit that it was never designed to compete against legacies hiring away the pilot group in the great shortage that now exists, and will exist for some time. I think the model will thrive again in the US, but it’s on a 5 year or so pause until the craziness evens out, pay possibly becomes more competitive and those who could be hired on the back side of the this wave of retirements start looking at quality of life considerations being better at a growth airline than as tail end Charlie at a legacy as they stabilize their pilot group.

Spirit management isn’t going to figure it out imoho. They had their chance and deferred to starting counting their bonuses when they tried to merge with F9. B6 will have to figure it out for them, and seems aware of the issue while paying at least lip service to addressing it. Which leaves the remaining ULCC’s out there. Will any of them figure it out? TBD. I wouldn’t count on F9’s management ever getting the memo.

you can literally spin anything into FERST YER PERRRRRR!!!!

here. I’m going to give you three new topics. Please spin them into first year pay in 3 sentences or less.

1. the amount of time it took to build the Empire State Building

2. why Canadians love hockey so much

3. whether or not France deserves the stereotype of “surrendering all the time”

and, go!

1. Enough. They finished it.

2. The cold does things to people. Canucks are odd, but nice. Hockey? Meh.

3. Well earned.

You have to spin into why FNGs deserve more money.

F9 made money last quarter. NK didn’t. Other than first year pay being better, what was drawing pilots to F9? The “honor” of working for Franke?
How long do you guys have to be wrong before you’ll admit to being wrong?
