I don't now, would have to ask an F9er. But again, airlines can't go all the way to the bleeding edge of insolvency because FAA operating authority, and the courts now this also.

So first week post holidays when nothing happens in the corporate world. I’m unconvinced the f9 merger is happening, but if it does I would think it would have to be soon. That 50 million isn’t gonna last long in the trough months.

Trough months indeed. Alaska lost $95 million, American lost $476 million, B6 lost $208 Million, F9 lost $43 million and Spirit lost $143 million in the first quarter of 2025. Clearly 1st quarter hasn’t been a big money maker for anyone - except UA and DL, and much of that was international. so yeah, if 2026 is anything like that, the clock is really ticking.. Even with the 16% haircut the NK pilots took and all the furloughs and attrition, something is going to have to happen pretty quickly.

Stankhunt42 01-05-2026 01:29 PM

Congratulations

Congratulations ….NK is still kooked. It’s just a matter of time, admittedly it’s been longer than expected but it will happen. I hope the best for NK but it’s pretty clear what this outcome will be. Can’t staff the airline even at 200%. With all the sick calls and the exodus starting to roll into high gear now that the holidays are over it’s gonna be a never ending irop until they just close the doors. NK ALPA is in shambles to boot. [mod edit]

Sorry to all the good people doing their best at NK get out while you still can.

We will hear something in the coming weeks.

Listen to the last airlines confidential podcast about spirit and F9. We fired our CEO and have an interim in place. They seem to think that Dave is going to run the combined airline as he has apparently (from a management and corporate perspective) steered spirit in the proper direction and actually done very well with the BK so far.

not a troll post when the OP boasts about how spirit survived the holidays. Even though it was a disaster. I was simply replying. A desperate Bendo email and the obvious ongoing staffing issue about to get wayyyy worse isn’t a good look. So give me evidence NK is gonna make it? Didn’t think so.

Dave as done some incredible work if he actually turns Spirit viable, given what he walked in to.. and would deserve any job in aviation he wants, should that happen..

But who fires their CEO right before winning a merger deal?? Even a lame duck CEO would be allowed to do a victory lap before being escorted out the back door...

…and I’m the troll. lol ok. What has Davis achieved for the company. I agree he was given an impossible task but nothing has gotten better of anything the viability of NK has gone off a cliff. I don’t think there are any “haters” no one is rooting for spirits demise, there are just delusional hold outs screaming at all of us who left and made the right call. Yall are the real haters. Get off the Titanic.

They’re plenty of haters, you kidding my boy? Spirit screwed up the old guard; so
much so the entire industry came for them with long knives. Now they’re wounded, geniuses left the seniority list to plant themselves behind 25 year olds(sucks/hurts).

But laws have changed since, you need to be in really bad shape for the court to even entertain a BK plea now. That's for corporate, as far as I know individuals can still load up the lifestyle on credit cards and then just tap out at any time, no questions asked.

You cede control of the company in chapter 11. Delta came within one vote of the creditors committee to cease to exist.

sitting behind a 25 year old beats unemployment.

Yet 50+ diverts from the CAT III airport ATL this past morning. Autoland means nothing if the vis is so low you can't taxi it all the way to the gate. That remains to be seen.

So, I don't know exactly what caused it but there were NOTAMs for 8L and 9R degrading, at least for my airline, the field from Cat-III to Cat-II, and with RVRs below Cat-II mins I'm assuming that is why they stopped taking arrivals.

In order to have a CATIII approach the airport has to have an approved taxi plan for the minimum vis allowed.

Without the $475M in DIP financing they would have shut down already. So absent intervention he was right. But obviously with the intervention they are still operating on borrowed DIP funds that are quickly running out.

What specifically is wrong about what I said? That Spirit had to take DIP financing to keep operating? The DIP is literally the only thing that kept Spirit from shutting down already.

You make no sense….. 67 don’t matter the baseline here is inevitable unemployment at NK. At the very worst a furlough happens at legacies. You come back after a few years. Sucks but at least you have a job to come back to. Also no one thought they were “smarter” it’s called paying your bills and feeding your family.

still better than unemployment at NK

Dumbest Post Ever……..we are like a section 8 family that was able to survive a few more months because we found one final credit card at the back of our fake Coach Purse that didn’t have a balance on it so now we can keep living our best lives for another 90 days until that one is maxed out and we are out of options again.

No one is buying us.

No investor is saving us.

Look at the meltdown we just had the past few weeks, COO begging people to come work on their days off while we have 850+ on furlough.
Attrition is going to rapidly accelerate the next 30, 60, and 90 days. We just entered the beginning of a death spiral.

If our liquidity crisis doesn’t bury us, our staffing problems will.

It’s over. It won’t be long before all of us will be called upon to work that final “Back to Base” repo trip before we shut the f$ck down.

ReadOnly7 01-07-2026 08:43 PM

Management is never going to allow you to know the truth. Most likely you will work your last leg at Spirit and not even know it was going to be your last leg. Because if you DID know it….you’d disrupt it somehow.

Probably. I'd be tempted to leave with a souvenir... most airbus parts are probably worth the price of the ticket home.

Historically when this happens, ALPA carriers will extend jumpseat in the cabin privileges for a week or so to help everyone get home.

Most of us would float buddy passes to get yall home. Or give up a jumpseat to get you back by midnight. If that happens we gotta stick together.
