If rosemont was like iah short layover I might see your point but rosemont has plenty generic America to entertain but if you want a more cultural experience you are just a short train ride away. In fact I think ORD is a good model for most layovers IMO but that's me I everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Also, I'm a family man and I come to work to make money and get a little rest in between so going out for a party isn't my MO, not that there's anything wrong with that. Let's say we did go downtown and you have 30 years left (hopefully) at this airline. How long before you've seen all you can see in (insert city) before it just becomes a long ass drive to an overnight you've seen a million times? Heck, if you are a single guy, since our rosemont location has many watering holes in close proximity and we stay at the same hotel as the flight attendants, the odds of you getting laid by a loose FA are much high than if we went downtown.

FYI the contract doesn't say downtown. It says metropolitan area and that was arbitrated to be defined as where other airlines stay if there is a dispute. If you think ORD doesn't fall in step with that then you have the right to file a grievance.

Ps. Am I the only one that gets more than a little nauseous I'm bumper to bumper traffic with a driver that pushes the gas to the floor and then slams the brakes. That's how they all seem to drive too. I get to the hotel and all I want to do is lay down because of the ride.
Two things:

1. It's not the Rosemont International Airport. All other majors stay downtown. This isn't GoJet anymore.

2. I can't grieve it, only the hotel committee chairman can grieve hotels. Well, since he picks them, I don't know how he can grieve them.

I just don't understand why we can't follow the contract when it comes to hotels.

Not sure how GL holiday pay policy relates to us. 100% of certain regionals' new hires are getting $10,000 signing bonuses. How would $112 make up in any way for the other 360ish days of the year you're just making $14/hr.?
Good lord you guys.. My only point was that our holiday pay blows. Although I certainly appreciate you doing the math for me, I am fully aware that when considering all other factors, this gig pays more.

As far as the hotel goes, just venting a little steam for being stuck in chain restaurant hell for 30 hours. I actually did take the blue line downtown and enjoyed some delicious dumplings down in Chinatown. I guess I'll have to save Toby Keith's for my next 15 hour ORD layover.

I can assure you, I've talked to plenty if guys whos airlines put them up downtown and they'd rather stay in Rosemont as its closer to the airport. There's a couple of FLL lines where you're showtime is something like 6 am with traffic from downtown, I'd guess you'd need a 5 am bus. Cmon man, do you really want to get up that early? We have too many long van rides as it is. There's nothing wrong with Rosemont, it's close to the airport, plenty of places to get something to eat and the hotel is really nice.

What to you propose we get for staying in Rosemont? I don't like giving sections of the contract up for free?

Exactly! Ask a guy that's been at xyz airline for 30 years if he would've rather stayed in rosemont or downtown Chicago after the first year of that overnight. I'd almost bet he'd rather stay in rosemont. It's not like it's the red roof inn Knowxville airport with nothing around and downtown is only an extra five minutes away and has everything. Rosemont has plenty of entertainment and a train for you to get your precious dumplings.

Jesus, if only we had this much conversation on our lack of a contract........

That's ok, let's all complain about a van ride because that's really what's important

Just like when they complained about dirty flight deck and we got rewarded with the crum duster as a token of love.
