INTERVIEW: Spirit Airlines chief executive Ben Baldanza

"While Baldanza declines to name specific markets Spirit has on its radar, he indicates more flights to Mexico and to smaller US airports are favourable areas of growth: "We see Mexico over time becoming bigger for us."

Besides the upcoming flight from Dallas-Fort Worth to Toluca, Spirit already connects the Mexican airport to Fort Lauderdale. Baldanza believes there is more "Mexican affinity" with Texas and California than with Florida, and says Dallas-Forth Worth has international potential for Mexico and Central America. Most of Spirit's international flying is now out of Fort Lauderdale - it is already selling tickets for 14 routes out of Dallas-Fort Worth."

Quick question for the Spirit folks: On the careers page, once the application is sent initially, how can you update flight times, etc later? Every time I try to update my resume, it just says "you have already applied for this position" Thanks

A few pages back we talked about that. The only thing I was able to find out from HR, is that there is a glitch (like many here) in the system and they are working on it (like I said don't hold your breath).

Hiring will slow down the next few months, it'll pick up late Summer-Fall.

Good luck.

Hello everybody.
I applied (I think, I wish...)for Spirit FO position 6-8 month ago. And never heard anything from them.
Why "I think, I wish..."? After I put my data and resume in "my account" page and submited it, the sistem said: "you currently have no active job agents". What is that mean? Is my account activated? Do I need to create a job agent? If "yes", who can be my job agent? And how it is works?
Thanks.

Ongoing problem. Do you have a reference/pilot that can walk/email your CV? and even if you do, he/she has to have some serious pull, if not, it'll very difficult to get a call.

Sorry, That's the trend so far.

I have no idea where these CPs get their crack from. But it seems every initial class, at most airlines starts with some BS upgrade projections told by the CP. We were also told to expect 2y upgrade. They really meant to say 2y furlough. That is what it turned into anyways.

Obviously that 2.5y upgrade he was telling those guys in Dec 11 will not hold with the so far announced delivery schedule that has yet to ever be more than what was advertised. 4-5y is what is to be expected. Some early 2011 hires may see it dip below 4y for a short time. I would say that is till very good. I hope it holds.

Spot on.

Many of the most senior line pilot's held various flight ops management positions from birth of the airline throughout the Airbus certification.

They re-directed their service to the pilot group via ALPA work rather than take a pay cut and continue the 14 hour days in the office.

New management implements the ULP FTC (Ultra Low Pay F@*k That Contract) style of operations. Line is drawn in the sand and RDM (Revolving Door Management) is implemented.

Thus, a senior pilot's recommendation may very well hit the circular file immediately.

A snapshot of the bottom third of the list is certainly a box of chocolates. Twenty something's that came from Cessna's at the University, ton's of RJ guys, to 10,000 hour heavy guys.

Best bet this week (and this week only) is to get a senior Virgin pilot's recommendation if you want to work at Spirit.

My internal rec had been on the line 2 weeks. I think there was some luck involved.
