Sacrificing FO rates for one's own upgrade sounds like the IGM (I Got Mine) mentality that continually screws the guy below you. I know that's not what you mean to suggest, and I see your point, but we'll need to make this an appealing place to work when the upgrade dries up (Since upgrading is what we have to do just to make what legacy FOs make).

Preface by saying this comment is not meant pro or con PBS...
If PBS was implemented wouldn't the resulting adjustment only be temporary?
Wouldn't the hiring and upgrading return to our current growth rates once the staffing became right-sized?

Yeah, I'm not sure how PBS affects upgrading or recruitment (other than no one really likes it). United and Delta have PBS, they seem to be hiring pilots, just as I think we would.
Talk of PBS, work change rules and contract extensions have me worried. I need to upgrade fast!
From what I understand, we weren't required to disclose performance figures for 2014, but the spin from management placed us squarely average, which is where we wanted to be. We don't want to be first, "too expensive", nor do we want to be last. We want to be average seems to be the motto.

No, I don't think so. You would have the period of stagnation during the transition from line bidding to PBS, but then the staffing equation would be permanently altered as well. An example hypothetically would be that we currently need 8 crews per plane whereas through PBS we might need only 5.5 or 6 crews per plane. This is achieved through the loss of transition conflicts and modifications to vacation language among other 'efficiencies' gained by management. PBS would be a permanent paradigm shift.

The single biggest problem I have with PBS coming to NK is fundamentally that I do not trust our management. We are handing over a lot of power over our daily lives to management with PBS. It won't be transparent and I do not have confidence that the negotiating committee will get us the proper language in a new CBA. I'd expect red/green ^10 in terms of the number of grievances to get it right. I've worked under PBS in the past and I consider bringing it here to be a concession.
This is the main reason I would not vote for PBS. Management has made their bed of distrust and now must sleep in it.
Oops mgmt you fckt up. Now deal with it

after working the the FLICA PBS at my former employee (I was a union base rep for the flica pbs system), I can confidently say (my opinion) that the FLICA PBS system would be a disaster for our pilot group. Since we use FLICA for everything else, Id assume that is the vendor they would go with. Ive seen both sides, Line and PBS, going back to PBS would be a massive step backwards for our pilot group
