I think it is hard to pinpoint one or two reasons but as far as I know it mostly comes down to the sim. IMO you have to know much more about the Airbus than a RJ to fly it because the automation is more complicated to understand. Take that and throw in the fact that you train and check as the captain with only 4 sims. Not to mention day 2 in the sim is emergencies In Bogota..... engine failures in Bogota make LGA look like pre school.

Yeah I've heard that it kind of becomes 3 days of normal training with the South America training taking a full day away.

How long (approximately) would it take a new hire to land DFW?

Thanks!

It just depends on where the Upgrades are coming from, but I would say anywhere from 3 months to 8 months. I started class last Oct and was holding DFW in March. By buddy started class in Dec and is holding DFW in May. Those seem to be the average.

Not understanding the automation and/or the FMS and letting it lead you the down the wrong path then getting behind and screwing something up. The check ride isn't really that hard and I'd consider it pretty laid back if you know what the plane is doing and when it's going to do something. That's the disconnect with low time guys that don't have glass/jet experience. Things are happening too quick for them flying normally and it just snowballs when the failures in the sim start happening. Only 4 sims to get the "What's it doing?" figured out...

Ok you and I were in the same class. What are your initials? Just curious, we had a pretty good group.
