My opinion on the cqfo thing:
I think the quickest of fast upgrades are over. I don't think a new hire now will be captain in less than a year. If the music stops you will be an FO for a while, if we can keep staffing and get in on other growth opportunities a 1.5 year upgrade will stay for a while.
If you're stuck at your current company with no end in sight, and looking to make a lateral move, or commuting to one of our bases, cqfo trans states might be for you. Where else can you start over making at least $43/hour? If you are comfy where you are and have a line with good QOL, this may not be for you.
Bottom line: will you be happy making a lateral move for $43/hour where you will get some TPIC, but perhaps sit right seat 80% of the time?

Thanks for the feedback guys. I appreciate a good discussion. Yeah I've been stuck on reserve for over two years where I'm currently at, fall schedule is going to be reduced, and they are offering zero/part time lines. So TSA could be really good for me. Thanks again!

Got a question for the Captain Qualified FO's. Are you only paid as a Captain if you fly the Left seat??
I know at Piedmont our contract states if you are a Captain Qualified FO and fly one leg in the left seat you are pay protected as a Captain for that whole month.

I don't know why management thinks hiring CQFO's is the answer to their hiring problems. A lot of current FO's are hitting the mins and will be upgrading consistently. So, the company basically wants CQFO's to fly primarily as FO's and pay them the blended rate of 43 an hour? That doesn't make sense. Why not just make significant contract improvements to make the position attractive?
I'm guessing they do the CQFO thing instead of improving the contract because they can end it at any time. If they improve the contract, they are stuck with those changes.
I think what all of the independent regional managements are going to have to realize is they have to raise pay and improve the contract to keep attracting guys. If they don't, the attrition will shrink the company out of business, a la Republic.

I don't know but they have to submit a pay sheet every month because payroll can't keep up with who did what.

Since CQFOs were the topic of discussion, I meant a newhire CQFO, I guess I should have specified. They wouldn't be hired as a CQFO without the hours required for upgrade. At this point, I don't see someone hired today with capt mins being a full captain in less than a year, there's already ~100-120 people with a bid in for captain plus a few FOs will be hitting mins each month. There are some lucky CQFOs hired in December and January that should be upgrading in the next month or two, but after this batch of CQFOs, I would suspect thay upgrades will be more like 18 to 24 months with or without prior 121 time (Unless we end up adding even more aircraft than planned, or attrition really picks up).
