Stop being your own echo chamber MyTime. We don’t want more retirement. We want more $$$ and QOL that we can use now.
You mean it’s a 9.5% improvement in hourly rates above the 5% we bought and paid for. It’ll be a pay cut for many with the LOSS of QOL/Premium Pay/LCA paycuts/buying hotels commuting up the day before/loss of Covid protection/etc etc in the TA.

For the record I want more retirement money. So it’s not just him.

" We don't want more retirement"? You actually said that? WOW. Guess what retirement is quality of life. Not working and getting paid to not work is the definition of QOL you imbysal. Can't believe you actually said that. Getting a paycheck while working is easy. Having the resources to get you to 100yrs old is the hard part with No paycheck. Got news for you we have NO retirement now. A 401k plan is NOT retirement. Any FP will tell you that. Part of me wants this TA to pass so you yes idiots will get what's coming to you. How can pilots be sooooo fn stupid? FedEx 135k per yr till death, UPS 140K per yr till death and the same 401k that we have. YOU ARE ALL INSANE TO THINK THIS IS OK.

Mr IAH let me give you a little life lesson. Your young and think you have it all figured out right up until you knock up that poll dancer on a layover. No biggie your young and she just wants you to pay her 50k to go away and set up a 403B plan for the kid. So you have a big sigh of relief, dodged that bullet. Then you meet the woman of your dreams and get married. You bang out 3 kids and she wants her pilot McMasion on 5 acres of land. Ok no biggie you got that. She then wants the kids in private schools. OK you work an extra trip per month to cover that. But hey happy wife happy life. You then set up 3 more college funds for your kids and almost forgot the one for your one night stand when you were 23. Now you wife wants a Tesla because the neighbor lady has one. Being the rich airline pilot how can you say no. Now comes the fun part. Your gone 18 days a month to pay for all that crap and now your wife gets lonely. She starts banging the next door neighbor because he's home every night and makes 100k more than you do. She files for divorce and insists on alimony for 29 years and 50% of the assets. You think ok I think I can swing it. Just then your 4 kids go off to college and 2 want to go to med school ( after all you have those smart pilot genes). You start thinking this will be tight but if I take out a 3rd mortgage on my new not so McMansion I can swing it ( after all you don't want to dissapointt your kids). Just then you find out your parents are broke and they need your help with finances. By now you are approaching 65 and think wait! My retirement will keep me going. Only problem is you have NO retirement. That's when you think back and go " that mfr Mytime was right" and now you feel like a total horses patute..

No second chances

BTW not my story but heard it 1000 times.

Surely we could come up with a better illustration for the importance of retirement savings than this.

No I want what the company stole from me in 2004 and was dressed down in front of Congress for it. I would like ALPA to stand by their word and get it back like they promised they would in 2018. I didn't make those decisions but if you think for a minute that's not your potential future your an idiot.

We have retirement savings account it's called the 401k. We don't have a retirement plan. Two totally different animals.

The lake of basic 101 finance amongst pilots is frightening.
