How much was United, Delta, and American’s pension? How about TWA, Pan Am, and Eastern? Whatever happened to that??? Oh, that’s right, it can be taken in a heartbeat.
I don’t want to spend one ounce of negotiating capital spent on a retirement vehicle that can be taken away in an instant. I want retirement money to go to MY ACCOUNT, where it cannot be taken away from me. I can choose how I want to invest it. I can even withdraw it early for just a 10% penalty if I really need it.
I’m more financially prudent than your example person who knocks up at stripper at 23, has 3 kids, a 5 acre house, and a wife who loves to spend. So even if United handed me a 100k a year pension tomorrow, I would have to plan my retirement as if I got $0/yr from a pension, because that’s a somewhat likely scenario, so it doesn’t change my financial planning picture at all. It’s a total waste (actually a loss since we would then get less in raises, which means less in 401k contribution).
16% 401k contribution is plenty. Pensions are worthless. Lets spend negotiating capital on $$$ and QOL that we can use now.

It's no wonder we don't get sh*t in new TAs . Oh no United please don't pay me 3 million dollars after I retire because I'm afraid you might take it away. No I didn't bother to look up the new laws protecting DB plans in the case of a bankruptcy but they could change those laws. I'm so afraid and we can't possibly have both a 16% bfund and a retirement plan like UPS and FedEx after all we just haul people and freight all over the world. My MEC says we are not worthy so I'll just drink what their serving and be happy with my blue collar hourly pay rate of 55.00 per hour ( what you actually make on a 4 day trip). Anybody that thinks pilots today are " white collar" is kidding themselves. White collar workers don't wear hats and dismiss retirement plans.

Coincidence that TA voting closes on 15th and earnings on 19th? I think not. United knows this will be blowout numbers but if this POS passes it will be to late. Just think about that. Why didn't the MEC agree to hold the vote open until the 20th? We all know the answer to that I think. If this passes and I prey it won't talk about the mother of all buyers remorse.

These FAQ emails are insulting to read. It is either straight up lies or someone who has lost touch with reality.
