While we can bid those slots to change base or airplane, that isn't why the company publishes those vacancies. If they just needed to shuffle the existing pilots around it would be through displacements.

The company generally avoids displacements like the plague.. with the paid move and other benefits associated with it, they'll carry a base at minimum staffing for a looong time before they displace.

So they'd create unneeded vacancies in order to avoid a displacement?

Except when MP screws the pooch, which has been happening with somewhat alarming regularity the last few years. Some of it was their fault, some of it thrust upon them.

I'm amazed at how senior SFO 777 FO is going. A year ago, it was going way junior. I guess this is a seniority correction.
