What’s worse is one of those going out is junior to you, and all the backfills are senior
1 unfilled vacancy on this bid, making it kind of hard to justify new hire classes after March. Three cheers for the rapid growth at United! |

Yup, most of this “vacancy” bid was senior guys swapping positions. IAH was the junior CA base on this bid at 6253 of 12511 or right at 50% system seniority. Last year this time 70% system seniority was good enough to bid CA in SFO and EWR.

Since the prior Vacancy bid (18-03) was posted on 10-26-17, any new hire class after Jan 26, 2018 would only be able to use the unfilled vacancies from 18-04 or beyond. I am sure they will not have a class of only 1 person, so that means we will almost certainly have another bid with lots of options on the Narrowbody FO side of things coming out relatively soon. That way they can generate some unfilled slots for the rest of the spring classes. Hopefully there will be several more before the summer, so anybody who wants to change locations, or seats, or both before then has a shot. |

So this year is identical to last year:). |
This was in the last update from December 8th:
United’s International Network Planning team is still working on a few fleet-assignment details for the summer 2018 season, and our Domestic Network Planning team is putting the final touches on the 2018 summer flying level. Because of this, I do expect one additional vacancy to occur in early January, prior to the opening of annual vacation bidding. |
Joe, considering how loosely you guard your personal identity on this site, I’d advise you to re-read the note on the bottom of the screen shot you posted and reconsider the wisdom of it.

So you just choose to ignore 18-03V where the junior SFO 320 CA was 9187 (73%) and junior EWR 320 CA was 9127?
So this year is identical to last year:). |
Thank you T!
Now that the image has been removed I will simply point at that this time last year the January bid had over 100 positions advertised. |

You are absolutely right the same seniority that held CA this held it last year, hows that for growth and upward mobility.
Are you trying to suggest that if the CA seats don't get more junior every bid that we are in a negative to no growth situation? |
Any of you math majors compared the total retirements of 2017 to the total number of new captain positions awarded in Vacancy bids? (Or unfilled vacancies?) That would be telling.
