Quote: Also, the posted class list matches what we were told in person from a very senior executive. So that's good news for all the folks in the pool!
Thanks for passing on the info man!

Quote: This week's drop was almost all 737 FO, IAH / EWR / ORD with a few Bus FO slots in the same bases. Plus 2 GUM FO slots....
Thank you!

Not to rain on anyone’s parade but many years ago I was told by “a very senior executive” that my class would be captains in five years; took us fifteen years to get there.

So, there’s that.

A 5 month prediction is a tad bit more reliable than a 5 year prediction

Tell me you’re new to the airlines without… Oh, never mind.

So, I'm assuming the "upgrade during indoc" gravy train has come to an end then?

I would be one of the first people to be offered a class date in July if that actually occurs. Fourth and fifth year FO narrow body pay is the same as third year CA pay at my current job. So, I should be highly motivated to make the move to united. I can just so easily envision during day four of indoc, some guy or gal we have never seen before walking into class and making an announcement that we are being sent home and "don't call us we'll call you."

Is there any risk of that happening with all the recent bad press and Boeing issues?

There is ALWAYS risk of that happening, but with a United seniority number and 500 retirements a year happening, that's still not the worst situation or risk anyone faces. NK just deferred deliveries and announced a base closure and CA downgrades. $hit happens. As Stoik the Vast says, it's an occupational hazard...

Did you hear this from someone at the company, or how are you certain of that? Just curious.

As someone above me stated, anything is possible in this industry. That said, our CEO specifically addressed the possibility of furloughs due to our over staffing, and he said that he doesn’t anticipate any need to furlough. It’s too expensive a solution for a short term problem (he also gave a “we’re all a family” type answer, but I’ll spare you that part).
We still need a lot of pilots, just not quite as quickly as they originally planned…
