Did you hear this from someone at the company, or how are you certain of that? Just curious.

I would be one of the first people to be offered a class date in July if that actually occurs. Fourth and fifth year FO narrow body pay is the same as third year CA pay at my current job. So, I should be highly motivated to make the move to united. I can just so easily envision during day four of indoc, some guy or gal we have never seen before walking into class and making an announcement that we are being sent home and "don't call us we'll call you."

Is there any risk of that happening with all the recent bad press and Boeing issues?
As someone above me stated, anything is possible in this industry. That said, our CEO specifically addressed the possibility of furloughs due to our over staffing, and he said that he doesn’t anticipate any need to furlough. It’s too expensive a solution for a short term problem (he also gave a “we’re all a family” type answer, but I’ll spare you that part).
We still need a lot of pilots, just not quite as quickly as they originally planned…

To answer an earlier question: yes, the CA slots awarded to new hires appear to be done, since the last 2 classes didn't have them. However, upgrade to the 737 in a junior base is still not much more than a year, assuming you have the required hours plus 500 hours as a United FO in the airplane you'll be upgrading in.

That said, it remains to be seen whether the new hires who were awarded CA slots will actually be activated as a CA once they reach those 500 hours (and get off probation). I don't believe any of the new hire CAs have been on property long enough to go to charm school... perhaps someone with more info can comment...

The 500 hours do not need to be in the aircraft to which you’ll be upgrading. It’s simply off probation and 500 hours of flight time at UAL in any aircraft. Any probationary pilot can now bid, and be awarded, upgrade. They just won’t go to school until those two requirements are met.

Just deduction. They filled April with early January CJO's. I'm a mid January CJO. So, I figured I should be part of the July group. That's not considering any stragglers from last year that somehow didn't get a date.

Ah, ok. Was hoping maybe you’d heard something; but that makes sense. I was an Oct CJO but had a May availability; no idea where that places me against someone like you who was hired later, but had availability sooner.

I know of at least one Dec CJO that doesn’t have a class date yet so there could be more.

I haven't gotten a date yet but my CJO was in January; same for my CJO with HAL, haven't heard back from either company about a date.

I asked my recruiter this question regarding ranking for class date regarding CJO vs availabilty and was given a rather vague answer. Essentially no rules, just as leadership sees fit. I would imagine they would want a reasonably diverse group for each class. Just my 2c.
