I asked pilot hiring this question a while back and they mentioned interview date would play a factor; but that doesn’t lead me to believe it would be the determining factor.

Very interested to see what news (if any) they’ll have for us on Friday.

The company uses some ratio of 135/121/mil backgrounds per class. So if there are a ton of stragglers from your background, you might get a class date later than folks that got a CJO after you.

My CJO was on Feb 13th and then i did the drug test the first week in March. I guess it will depend on how big the classes are in july through Oct as to how long it will take to get through the back log.

Ah, I didn't know that you could upgrade into another airplane, thanks for the info! Upgrading into an airplane I've never flown before...I think I shall leave that particular challenge to those who are hungrier for punishment than I am

It’s not as bad as you think. I spent my first 5 years at UA on the bus and was in the left seat of the bus for almost the last 2 years.

I left the bus for the left seat of the guppy. It was challenging but by the MV phase of training it was an easy. A plane is a plane

To be honest, and this is not a MIL bashing, but they mix the classes up because the mil folks are mostly clueless to how the 121 world works. I can't imagine the clusterhump that would happen if a new-hire class was all military pilots with little to no airline/two-pilot crew experience. The Mil guys in my class were very good at flying very cool and fast jets that I could only dream about. But, the folks who had years of regional/121 experience had to answer their questions like "What is a 'ramp'/'ground' frequency?", "What is so bad about EWR?", and "Why is ORD the way it is?"

It was fun helping out the guys around me with those goofy questions, we still answer their questions in the group chat we still have running today, and it helped bond us as a class by working as a team.

But to be fair, can anyone really answer that question? Pretty sure scientists are still debating to this day about it

Despite my hopes I have now been told by friends in recruiting not to expect a class date in 2024 even though I had a mid January CJO. There are tons of people from last year that still need a class. I wasn't aware the back log was so deep.
