To each their own. What I do know is most people there like it and the pilot group is very close. I tend to be more of a slam clicker, so I don't know if the other pilots in my domecile being my social circle is maybe for me....but it clearly can be for some.

From what I understand: Very limited food and very high prices to due to heavy imports.

Limited entertainment/cultural options

I'm not familiar but I would imagine local hots would tend to leave the island as quickly as they can, so not a real good "Singles scene" or whatever we call it these days.

Extremely slow shipping and receiving: (a concern for 20-30 somethings nowadays as there tends to be more of a "order it off of amazon" lifestyle.

Very inefficient and corrupt local officials who embezzle all the money and divert all resources away from schools.......which YES really suck.
Big difference in single life between being a single guy stuck on the island and a single guy that's always laying over in Asia, with free flights there whenever you want.

Guam is one of those things that you just have to try yourself. Some people hate it, some never leave.

Seems fair amount of NRT overnights in the bid packet (both long and short)………how senior do they go?

Are there any commuters? If so where? Presumably the other islands or Japan?

NRT overnights go anywhere from 80% up, probably even earlier depending on how the rest of the trip looks. Bottom of the barrel is HND and MNL turns, MNL triangle and KHH - CEB. KHH - CEB isn't a bad trip, there are just so many of them that they span the whole seniority list. Trips get better in summer as the MNL turns and triangle go away. We have a few commuting from Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, other parts of Asia. Not really from any of the smaller islands I don't think. Plus there's always some that do it from the states while they are awaiting activation or some other reason.

Starting class in March, curious about how the vacancy bids work. From my understanding the company takes unused vacancies from the company wide bid that go unfilled and have the option to use X amount for each new hire class. However, it seems to me that the company does not say how many of each fleet/base there are available. If I really want the 737, don’t care which base, even though the company has what seems like tons of unfilled 737, is there still a chance I’m “too junior” to hold the 737 if everyone ahead of me wants it?

Theres a chance but it’s a very small chance. 737 is the junior fleet

If there was a chance of you being too junior to hold the 737 you wouldn't have been hired!

tacking on, not impossible to be forced onto the bus, but it would take a combination of a very unusual distribution of options and you being on the very young end of your class

It’s a very small chance. But even if that does happen, you’ll have to suffer through the torturous existence of being a narrow body FO at a legacy, probably in your 20’s, for a whole 2 years before your seat lock is up and you can lateral to a 737. So I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
