New Hire Classes and Drops

IAH and EWR are the largest 73 bases. Last time I looked they were about 340 and 320 each seat respectively. Denver was about 200. I haven’t seen a new hire in Den 73 since I started, but IAH has 1 now starting in March.

Denver just announced United departures will go from 500 (a record last year for United) to 700.
24 more gates
An increase in the Denver pilot hub might be in the forecast.
Denver Post
“This expansion would allow United to increase departures at DIA from 500 to 700 per day by 2025.”

How many are mainline vs. commuters?
As always, that is the key question that needs to be answered.
Though, if you do some basic math-
24 gates and an increase of 200 flight comes out to be a little more than 8 flights a day for the new gates. Now, I don't buy that for the mainline side of it so they are probably re-utilizing existing gates a little better but even so, we should still be looking at a decent amount extra mainline flying. Maybe a couple of hundred pilots total? (Capt/FO's, and mostly narrowbody but maybe some 756 guys too?)
Interesting times for Denver.. and good for them!
Now, just need a new contract to go with the new gates~

Just a bit of perspective, I got my CJO 7 weeks ago, and don't have a class date yet. The original hiring plan of ~40/class would have put me in class in early February, but with the reduction in frequency and class size due to the Max's continue groundings means starting in Mid/Late March is most probable now.
I do think the next few months will be like this, then it will go back to the goal of ~6 weeks between CJO and start date. Last Friday, United did a hiring brief with AeroCrewSolutions V-Fare and United said they are still planning on hiring more in 2020 than they did in 2019, so the back half of the year will be busy.

Besides the MAX, everybody should keep an eye on the coronavirus. In the airline industry we've seen this show before and it's not pretty.
There's no reason to panic, but applicants and folks on the bottom of the list should have realistic expectations and alternative strategies if the music is paused for a bit.
