I have a buddy that attended the military career day in '18 and never heard anything afterward...until he received an invite for the '19 career day (he didn't go). He received the Hogan invite shortly before Christmas a few months ago, subsequently interviewed, and is now in the pool.

It stays quiet until two weeks prior to class start date, then a few emails roll in with things to read and do. After CJO for me, it stayed quiet until class offer about four weeks before class date.

I do not see furloughs or anything crazy like that but the lack of the MAX is driving our need for pilots right now. The unknown is when the easy jet A319s and the SouthWest 737 start showing up......that’s 40 aircraft that are supposed to start showing up this year.

unless we hear some promising news about the MAX....I think the wait may be long unfortunately. I’m far from a doom a gloom and the sky is falling but we are staffed for the aircraft we have for the summer flying. If the MAX stays down over the entire summer season I wouldn’t expect a new hire class until next fall.

The latest Crew Resources update states, "We will almost certainly continue with pilot hiring over the summer, so I do expect vacancy bids for narrowbody first officer categories to continue, in order to support that new-hire process."
