Actually yes. If you fly, or take your family, you will end up buying tickets. Use them for upgrades.

Pass travel has effectively been rendered useless. Very few times, when you have to get there, you can count on being able to use a pass. Full planes mostly, or one cancellation out of ORD or EWR, and you are done for the day.

Bottom line is, if you have to get there, buy a ticket, and many times, at least for me, it's not on UAL.

I had a bunch of United miles from my previous job. I used them for tickets for the family and I to travel for vacation since pass travel isn’t that great of a deal. Free tickets with no available seats isn’t such a great deal. Now that my miles are spent, we just buy tickets on the airline with the best price/schedule.

Yes.

As others have stated, the flights are full.

In addition to using the miles for tickets, consider buying tickets with the substantial employee discount and then use the miles or upgrades to E+ or F.

Takes a lot of stress out of commuting if you find yourself in that position.

New class drops from unfilled vacancies. Question is; How far back can the company go when using previous vacancy bid unfilled slots or is there even a limit?

8-C-8 Bulletined but unfilled First Officer vacancies and secondary vacancies may be used by the Company for the assignment of new hire pilots.

8-F-3-d In the event a vacancy is not filled within ninety-two (92) days of the date the award bulletin was issued, the vacancy shall be cancelled.

so, 92 days from the date the award was published. That means that the unfilled assignments from the vacancy bid that was awarded at the end of July, are still legal for the class next week, but no further. Then it will be the unfilled assignments from last months bid plus all those created by the bid that closes today for the next few classes.

Those 2 December classes are the first two classes since the merger that are straight new hire. All the furloughs will be back or gone.

Curious what the final number will be of those that elected not to return.
