Sounds about right. I think everyone spent the following week in agony reliving every answer they gave😄

Default ORD

Hi all,

Upcoming interview in Feb. Knowing these things change all the time, can anyone shed some light on whether or not ORD has been available to new hires. If not, what's the most junior DOH for any aircraft in ORD?

TIA.

Default Lax or sfo

Hey guys,

I start indoc in March and am very humbled to be joining the United family. I’m originally from the northeast, but have a unique opportunity to be able to live in California with my housing paid for courtesy of my better half’s job. We’d stay put otherwise, but we’re interested in checking California out for a bit due to that perk. I’d like to bid 737 first and 756 as next choice. Can anyone provide insight on what type of flying each aircraft does out of LAX vs SFO? What type of schedule I can expect to attain in each aircraft and base? LAX is a smaller base so is it worth it to go to SFO for quicker seniority or do people bid out of LAX so quickly that I’d move up quick there too? We’d both prefer Southern California but I’ll go wherever. Any help is much appreciated!

I can only speak to SFO, but 756 goes to only 6-9 places, mostly things like EWR, overnight, back. Lots of hub stuff with some Hawaii and almost entirely 757 flying.

737 has a little bit of everything, thought it’s weighted to 4 day trips. Seniority progression is F-A-S-T, and being local, I was doing either what I wanted or when I wanted by the time I was about 65% in base, or maybe 12-18 months. My preferred method was Hawaii and Florida in the winter and cool places in the NE in the summer. Plus, you’d get to fly with me, and after seeing the influencer stuff going on in the haircut thread, you could get in on the ground floor of my new influencing gig.

Driving to work is great, driving to work in a junior base (if you can stomach the locale) is king. Where would you be living?

Nice, how many days off does that entail up to and at the 65% mark? I’m coming from 4 on 2 off and 11 days off a month so anything is better, just trying to get an idea. Well I don’t know where we’d be living yet because I haven’t been assigned a base. Prefer LA and to live south of LAX if possible but would totally be open to anywhere nice within the 2.5 hr driving distance of either SFO or LAX if it means I can be comfortable on reserve when I’m on it, then when I have a line, have one with a lot of days off and opportunity to pick up extra. Lol I’ll buy all the beers on the trip if I don’t have to participate in any influencing.

LAX is not really a smaller base. If you like socal, do that. Similar flying out of both, but I guess LAX does more central America. Both do transcons and the islands. If you really want to get your answer, have a buddy on property show you the bid packages.

Reserve time is currently like a month give or take

I was under the impression that LAX is the second smallest base behind CLE. I do prefer Southern California but I’m much more willing to go wherever I can have best quality of life the fastest. True, I’ll definitely look into that. Just figured I’d ask the forums for its wisdom
