So the next contract will settle this. Its an R President, and 2 of the 3 NMB members are R appointees, so if we get a concessionary contract, you win. And if we get a better contract, then I guess there will be some big excuse.
Completely false. Under Obama Linda Puchala (former UAL FA and president of the AFA) and Harry Hoglander (former TWA MEC Chairman) were nominated as his two democratic nominees. His republican nomination (incoming presidents nominates two from his party and one from the other party) resigned and he never replaced her.

Linda gave unprecedented negatating support to the UAL/CAL JCBA negotiations. She was personally at the table during the last 8 months of negotiating up until we negotiated an agreement in principle. She met with the UAL/UAL joint MEC’s at least three times.

Under George W Bush no airline was able to shtrike, under Obama Spirit did get to strike. While only one release to self help may not seem like a lot, the NMB was much more labor friendly under Puchala and Hoglander’s NMB them during Bush’s NMB. I believe Trump kept Puchala, Hoglander retired and Trump has added two Republican nominees.

The NMB has immense power and most insidesrs in Washington don’t even really know what is the NMB or how much power they yield. They just kind of operate in the dark doing their business.

RLA Negotiating 101. Most pilots are uneducated about the act and the NMB and how they operate and the power they truly yield.

Well, then based on current NMB members - Fauth (R), Puchala (D) and Fortson (R), we will be totally screwed on this new contract. According to the logic that's now being peddled by some.

How bad did Spirit's pilots just get screwed with the current NMB? Only a 43% pay increase on date of signing along with higher retirement contributions and other contract enhancements. Total screwjob...

NMB composition matters a bit, but it's by no means the most important factor in securing a new contract. Those of you who think that NMB composition is critical are essentially saying that we'll be lucky if we don't get pay cuts, loss of scope, and onerous work rules on a new contract. All to 'prove' a partisan political point of view.

Quite correct.

It’s only one factor of MANY, but it’s also an important part of the process if one side or the other is playing games. Best and worst case it’s still a thumb on the scale one way or the other.

As an example, ask a JetBlue pilot how the current NMB is moving their first ALPA negotiation along with a company that only wants to stall. At the present rate they’ll never get a contract and the current NMB is apparently fine with that.

Thanks for validating my (humble) understanding of the IRS.gov guidance.

Wow. Backpedaling and then hedging all in the same post. Awesome gymnastics there.

I don't understand why you guys are hellbent on making this a political issue. Does anyone here really think that Democrats care about airline pilots' contracts when our pay is in the top 5% of wage earners? If you were a dreamer or LGBT (even better if you were an LGBT dreamer), Democrats would care. But union airline pilots? No.

Ready, fire, aim?

Enjoy your straw man game with somebody else, unless you simply quoted the wrong post.
