AA vs UAL

To the OP:
If you’re going to commute, commute to SFO over LAX. Most junior base. Growing. Guys getting lines on NB a month or two after OE. NB captain at about 4 years and will probably drop.
Our retirements are smaller in numbers than American, but all signs point to us just hitting our hiring stride.

Last I saw, Terminal 9 at LAX for UAL is a solid "go". Don't know the timeline, as I think it can't break ground until some other LAX airport projects are completed first. Once complete, I'd expect solid base growth, albeit LAX for UAL will probably always be significantly smaller than our other bases.
Commuting to LAX is complicated by the need to cover other locations such as ONT or SNA which are not easily connected to LAX (hint: avoid bidding the Bus). For SFO, it is pretty easy to get to SJC for trips or OAK when commuting. Also, not a lot of UAL metal between LAS and LAX so you are at the mercy of whatever carrier you are commuting on. Approx 6-9 flights a day from LAS to SFO on UAL, you may get Jonesed for the JS at the last second by a senior UAL pilot... but it will be rare and you will have home field advantage otherwise.

The min numbers on this last vacancy bid had nothing to do with the planned size of the base. They artificially had low mins, across almost all fleets and seats, in order to not backfill. It was a very targeted bid for specific fleets, and for creating unfilled vacancies for new hires.
