Relaxing the Scope Clause is Good?

Now that’s funny, but it also has a message that’s not. United and Boeing have one thing in common, they gave up quality control to outsource to the lowest bidder. Both companies have to own up and accept responsibility for what they got as a result. You get what you pay for.

Mostly agree, but it’s a bit murkier than that. If the regional operating that flight didn’t have such a problem maintaining their operation, they wouldn’t have needed to deadhead so many crew members on that flight.....which is what caused the need to remove pax. Not Republic’s fault, per se......but definitely a symptom of the regional business model.

Once again you’re getting angry at a guy who’s literally saying ridiculous things to make you angry. He has no other intention. Think for a second.
Also to your point, who do you suppose is going to fly those flights brought in house? You know how many regional pilots fly United Express? You got a few thousand other pilots just waiting around to replace them all?

It is murkier than that. They were trying to make it to SDF after their deadhead on another regional was delayed. This one was the last option. How would united have done it better? I don’t think United has crews hanging around SDF to fly the next day’s flight.

It’s not like the flying would be replaced overnight. If United were to buy a bunch of 100 seat jets, or even bring the 70ish seat jets that it owns over to mainline, they would simply hire off of the street to staff them. There is a crazy long line of people wanting to work here. It shouldn’t be a problem.

And the regional pilots replace themselves- at mainline. Do you think those regional pilots will just vaporize?

I agree with you. United has to offer a much better regional product and they are striving to do so. The 50 seat jet is being reengineered by a joint Embraer/Boeing project. Customers dislike flying on the E145 and CRJ. Positive changes are ahead.

The important part of your message is this ....how bad the company wants something. So what does the company want? Aside from scope relief that they “know” they won’t get.
Why is it that some people think we have to give something up to get gains in the contract? There is no set amount of money and we have to decide what we want vs. what to give up--no matter how much management tells you this.
It all comes down to unity, how solid our resolve is--and how bad the company wants something. That's called leverage. Comments like these don't help, and we have failed as a union to educate our membership. Obviously still a work in progress.
