I think you got some bad info about rollovers from your 401(k). At your age you should be able to move it all...penalty free.

Having said that, I can’t imagine why you would want to unless you want to invest in MLP’s or level 2 options.

I generally suggest pilot roll their former IRA’s , INTO their PRAP..for various reasons.

My guess is that with growth and attrition we will be at maximum capacity in the training department and they don’t want to make it worse by encouraging others to leave, especially top widebody pilots. A WB vacancy generates a bunch of training cycles as people move up the ladder.

I see no way to entice a mega senior guy with six weeks of vacation and unused sick time to leave early, at that point it’s a part time job. I don’t see them offering the kind of money it would take for a senior guy to consider it.

I am surprised this thread hasn't already been brought back so here it is. Just an opinion so prepare your quiver & arrows, this is going to happen. It's been in the news, the senate, the arena and they are debating. Bank on it. My question is what do pilots think? As stated in the last comment senior folks are going to love the added 2 years. Top paying, top max contribution into the 401k, possible new contract increasing that. And what is the position of folks regarding the ALPA position, who is fighting this with the below remarks.

Shouldn't we the pilots be able to decide when to quit, retire, or whatever? Sure, medical is out of our control. But if we have a class 1 isn't this why we have 2 folks in the cockpit also? Look forward to the discussion.

I had not heard of it being a discussion. Now that I’m old, I’m for it! Lol, I think honestly I’ll recuse myself from the conversation. I’m good either way. I don’t need to stay. Planning on 60 as was the rule when I started.

Who in their right mind wants to do this job past 65?
if you haven’t saved enough in the past 30-35 yrs, another 2 yrs won’t help you.
Get a hobby, enjoy your last few years on planet earth.

I vote for age 60 rule to come back.
