I guess we should do away with that custom.

**** it.. I will not tell my company that I'm not going to be available to fly my trip on Wednesday, I'll call them from my break during InDoc at my new employer!

No one is really arguing about the fact that we canceled their class. What many of us are saying is that it was in poor taste to tell them on day X- yupe, all is well. Then literally a couple days later and 2 or 3 days prior to class.. NOPE, don't show up.

Poor call in mine (and many others) opinion.

I don’t think anyone is arguing that the way United went about this is in poor taste. But we now have is a generation of pilots who have never had bad times in aviation and have no idea this is just what airlines do, when times get crappy. It’s not limited to United almost all of them did this after 9/11 and a lot of them did it in the recession. Not saying that makes it ok, but this is just what happens.

You are raising 50k for about 10 pilots. Thats 5k per pilots. How long is it going to last them? Do you plan on using Gofundme platform to raise income until United reinstates their class which no one knows when that might be?

Totally impractical and unrealistic!
What do you care what people do with their own money? If you don't want to chip in, don't, and leave it at that.

Bingo! I don't want to see anyone furloughed, but if you youngin's do, just suck it up buttercup like we had to through several furloughs.

I actually think there are several who want the “youngins” to go through what they did. You had to pay so they should too.......it’s sad to see people almost routing for a furlough.

you will lose your house your car you’re boat your plane your wife......and at the end they will say told you so.

Add in a bankruptcy and a merger, then they'll be "real" airline pilots

Could these "old farts" have just been giving a warning instead of setting up for an "I told you so" moment? Before 9/11 I flew with many former rEAL pilots that gave me these same warnings about what happens when times get bad. I didn't take it as them trying to rain on my parade. I was thankful to learn from their experiences. And damn near everything they told me came to fruition, continuously, over the next 8 years.

Yeah after typing that I deleted it because I had the same thought you did. My post did not add any value to the thread. You make valid points.
cheers

One of many problems the pilots in the 03 class face, specifically the 10 or so who are in the cold, is they are not eligible for unemployment benefits. At least that was an option for us furloughed guys, And I am not up to speed on their medical benefits, but they are probably cooked there as well. At least folks who call us jaded and cynical now know how we got that way....

I don’t disagree with this at all. But in multiple posts on multiple iboards you can read almost an underlying excitement that’s the part I call sad.

best advice I ever got was live a full pay scale down because **** happens and when it does airlines struggle.
