That would be nice, but it’s Kirby that we’re dealing with and he likes the regional feed vs mainline. Hopefully by holding the line on scope he will have to change the way UAX operates and a bunch of those beat up 50 seaters will find their way into retirement. By holding the line he doesn’t get more rj’s. The only way he gets more is if we give them to him, or if our contract is opened up in CH 11. He wants the bailout money, not bankruptcy. All we can do for now is to head over to the what cha’ drinking thread and watch what happens.

One thing no ones really mentioning is all the RJ’s united owns and sub leases to the express carriers. May be too late now, but our scope going forward should stipulate if furloughs happen UAL owner rj’s need to be either rolled into mainline or parked immediately.

The idea that UAL rj’s May/will be flown by uax pilots while we may have some on the street doesn’t sit well with me.

Cost per seat mile may not matter as much as cost to operate each flight. I wouldn't expect any flight - either RJ or mainline - to be profitable for some time; I'm not sure why you or anyone would think that RJ flights are anywhere close to breakeven for mainline carriers. I also expect flight frequency of all city pairs to be reduced - that's both mainline and RJ cities.

No airline is going to be spared from this carnage.
yeah I have very little clue about this, and it’s clearly more than a bit pointless to try to guess what the company has already gamed out a few thousand ways with as many variables on their supercomputers. Time to ride the carousel...

these are 175 only. There are a ton of 145 flying at XJT and CommutAir that are UA owned.

I’d love to see it, but I seriously doubt that Kirby would ever sign that. I do hope that this massive downturn makes them look at 100 seat mainline jets again. Having efficient and modern 100 seat jets with 75% load factors would be better than less efficient 150 seat jets running around with 50% loads.

I’m sure what I’m suggesting is Kirby’s worse nightmare. I think though, whenever we come through this on the other side, this black swan should be a wake up call to everyone on the importance of scope protections and galvanize us with that goal in mind. I suspect the political winds will be behind us too for at least a short while.
