For the record, many of the Aviate people at the top of the list waiting for a class date have been flying for over 25+ years as well. They have more than paid their dues. I think people who aren’t in Aviate think the majority in the program are 24 year olds. They aren’t. Some of these guys are close enough to mandatory retirement that the extra time of waiting due to Covid and whatever else is extending the wait, is putting them in the position where it may not even make sense to change airlines now. I just want to clear that up.
Regardless, to all pilots who have served, Thank you for your service! |

$25,000 question…..are YOU in the AVIATE program? With a class date? Your presence on the United threads has grown exponentially recently.
*unrelated question…..were you an engineer as a previous career? You sound like every engineer I’ve ever known. |
Two month check-in.
Great news, classes are being filled through July. That’s more than 10 Classes since the first class May 11th. That’s better than anyone thought possible when 2021 started! Now that there are 10+ classes on the books, have ANY Aviate candidates outside of the CPP been invited to class yet? I am still trying to gauge whether I should recommend this program, or just recommend waiting for the off-the-street interview. |

They are still taking the CPP folks as they made up top 20% of the list. There should be Aviate people moving soon. Our CP said they are expecting to run out of candidates who meet all of the qualifications by the end of the year, no matter what program they are in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Some numbers from Mesa.
As of April 2020 there were a total of 90 Aviate participants. 4 of them are CPP which made up the 1st decile. I know for certain 3 of them were in the June class 10 days ago. Looking at the roster (published June 13) all participants in 2nd decile and 3rd are still it. If they've received a July class they might not have given 2 weeks notice yet...go figure |

It makes sense that off-the-street hires would be prioritized over the Aviate candidates, since they need the regional pilots to stay at their regionals for the summer. It definitely seems that getting the off-the-street interview will get you to United much more quickly. Thanks again for the information. |

Too many variables to say OTS would happen “much more quickly”. The people going now were a month or two from getting the call when covid hit. The off the street hires that didn’t make it to class before covid had the same delay. Someone hired into Aviate now, if they meet the requirements, could theoretically go before the end of the year. Plus there’s no guarantee they’ll ever actually call you OTS. |

I think it’s more that the CPP people are first on the list, and they are still working their way through them, not some kind of “keep the regionals staffed through the summer” thing.

Plus there’s no guarantee they’ll ever actually call you OTS. UA has made it through all the pre-COVID OTS hires/CJO’s. Currently OTS who interviewed in May 2021 are being offered classes in July. To my understanding, CPP have pretty much all been offered class dates. Aviate candidates who have finished transition requirements that interviewed prior to March 2020 are still waiting for class dates. Until Aviate candidates start getting classes, it is pretty much true that current OTS interviews are getting class dates before Aviate. This may change by the end of summer, but I guess we’ll see. I agree that I don’t think it has much to do with the “lets keep the regionals staffed,” because current classes are mostly being filled with pilots from regionals who just interviewed in May. |
