Something else to consider is that you probably need to compare yourself to the average new hire. The average age is 40 with the commensurate time & experiences (LCA, CP, etc.). If that is you, then OTS is probably a good choice.

Good point. Oh yes. Been flying the last 20 yrs and have definitely ticked most all those boxes at some point. I pray I'm competitive enough to make the cut.

Just something to think about for your boyfriend, unless he is coming to a regional from a lot of experience elsewhere like 135, in which case a stop in a regional probably isn’t necessary either.

OTS
That's what I was leaning towards seeing the timeframe all these pilots are having to wait. I can see the frustration of waiting this long on their faces. I know getting into the program is not a CJO, but only a handful of people, maybe 6 or 7 have gotten a class date through Aviate since UAL started hiring this year. Appreciate your input friend. Definitely not as advertised.

This is false. Many more than 6-7 have been placed into class via Aviate this year. Haven't read through this whole thread, but it was announced that everyone meeting the Aviate requirements (time at UAX) will be in class by the Spring.

I'd say for someone just getting started in their career, Aviate is the way to go. One and done interview. Just do your time at the selected UAX carrier. For those that are more experienced, you'll probably do better applying off the street. To each their own.

Seems to me that the program is in a stand still or paused. Going off the street is faster. Know 2 people who interviewed OTS 2 months ago and got class dates in August. Few Aviate people I talked to at AW waiting patiently interviewed in 2019. Both of them are interviewing at different airlines this week feeling slighted and losing a lot of seniority at UAL. Personally, I don't know what I want to do. My bf is thinking Aviate cause he's new to the airlines and needs experience in the 121 world. I have my time and based on what is required in Aviate, exceed all of them, so I'm thinking OTS. Thoughts?

I'm curious why you haven't started applying to majors with 20 years of experience? How long have you ben at an airline? Do you have a degree? United has only been hiring for what, 90 days? And they said everyone will be at United in less than 6 months? Seems like a fair gig.

Seems to me a little bit of common sense would tell you that Aviate hiring will slow during the busy summer flying season then pick up as flying slows down in the fall.

Has hiring slowed down for the summer months? I don’t think it has. Word out of TK is full steam ahead. Classes are full.

Aviate hiring didn’t have anything to slow from. It barely got started.

Aviate pilots actually interviewed in 2019.

The new guys that are interviewing now are way down the list.

Hi, apologize if I came across the wrong way. Single mother of 3 after my husband passed when they were children. Took a break from flying for 12 yrs to raise a family. Have 135 experience but wasn't current, so got a job at the regionals. Been here for almost 4 yrs now as a LCA. BF flies at another regional and we recently decided to look at the legacies. Have a couple of businesses on the side so its not about the money. Just wondering what the better route would be to get one of the best legacy carriers. That's it. Sorry if you took my inquiry the wrong way.

Agree it’s just getting started. To clarify, I would expect this to become a seasonal pattern going forward. Aviate hiring will slow during the summer months to prevent placing additional stress on regional partners during the busy season. Then once flying slows and regional partners are better able to handle the attrition Aviate hiring pace will increase. It is one of the obvious benefits to the company of the Aviate system. Perhaps I am mistaken.

Thanks for clarifying. Yes, that would make sense if the intent of the Aviate program is to give a metering vessel to slow hiring when needed to keep their regionals staffed. I don’t believe the program is being presented that way to the pilots, but I too could be mistaken.
