No this guy was from ASA and his real name is John. He drove a wedge between the pilot groups along with the two MEC's that ended up costing both pilot groups dearly. No one wanted to admit the other side might have a point or even entertain the idea after people like him stirred the pot. Skywest bought ASA first and XJT second, straddled them with inept management/processes/schedulers, played both MEC's into each other, and then tried to force two very different companies to merge and this guy thought that dragging everything out was to his benefit. He is a regional lifer that holds grudges from the Comair days with serious blinders on to his own shortcomings. He turned a lot of relatively neutral xjt people against ASA when it was absolutely crucial we had one voice. The guy is just a sorry excuse for a union pilot.

I really hope you’re right. The saddest thing about all of this is that there’s been 0 communication from anyone in Aviate. We are losing seniority every week/month to people who interviewed last month getting class dates OTS. This is our careers we are talking about and seniority is everything. I know some of you will say to go somewhere else and don’t put all your eggs in one basket, but when you have invested your time in to United and preparing for them so long, it’s not as easy. Honestly, just want some communication and if they could have guaranteed us our seniority, I really wouldn’t care.
I wish I had gone off the street, cause I would have been in class already. Would be great to hear something soon, but not getting my hopes up.

He was the most vocal/outspoken, but he was not the sole actor in all that. There was a slew of other CRJ pilots that did their fair share.

That’s dangerous thinking. There’s no way to know if your app would’ve even received a second look if you hadn’t gone Aviate. For your own sanity don’t go down that path.

40 years old with commensurate experience, leadership, etc? That's the "average" new hire, at least here. If you're in that window, why wouldn't you apply OTS elsewhere? The best company to work for is the one that calls first and nothing stops you from leaving that company for an interview elsewhere.

That’s me, and United was the first one to call.

Maybe I was being too subtle. If you don’t have a UAL seniority number yet, I think most people would apply to multiple places and take the first place to get you on their rolls.

It seems that unless you are “under qualified” or have a really compelling domicile consideration that Aviate is just a way to keep you at a regional longer. 20-something person who is still building time and experiences is a different story and might get you in the door sooner.

How long would it take to get to United if one were to join aviate today? I know this depends on how many pilots United hires, but I'm curious what your best guesses are.

It depends. Does this hypothetical pilot already fly for uax? Do they have the time required at that UAX carrier? If not, then 2-3 years flying a pretty hefty load. If they do have the time, I believe United said a couple of weeks ago that everyone that currently meets the requirements will be transitioned by April of 2022.

Just getting ready for the regionals, looking at CommutAir for the denver base. Three years doesn't sound that bad.
