I don’t think most junior people feel they are owed anything. I honestly think that’s your preconceived notion about what someone’s beliefs are … But I think the idea that junior pilots are furlough fodder for bad Times is not an idea I would like to take as a core UAL ALPA belief going forward. I would rather have provisions à la FedEx that allow for some reduction in MPG for unforecast events. And plan my finances accordingly for the events we will inevitable hit every 10 years or so. I’m okay if my earning potential is less because of this. I would rather fly with junior FOs knowing we as UAL pilots do our best to take care of those junior pilots who take a huge chance coming here in their 40s.
we have legal teams our dues pay a lot of money for to look at how the language could be crafted, and even then I would have to read it for myself. But as stated many times, as a junior captain not holding a furlough letter, I for one would consider a (Hypothetical) TA that effectively delivers me a 66% paycut (NB CA to 50% NB FO) If it kept people off the street

That’s because this thread is dominated by like 5 or 6 people. You honestly think 12,000+ pilots are on here and just not posting? Plenty of people don’t feel the need to validate themselves by anonymously posting their views in the hopes that they might influence somebody’s vote. I wish I was one of them.

flaming POS… Huh. The thing that no one has read yet? The agreement that our hard-working volunteer union members have probably been losing sleep to get to us for our review?
I guess you don’t trust yourself to use your critical thinking hat and just vote no before you read it? Are you afraid of what happens when you start thinking for yourself, you might be tempted to see a nuanced position somewhere between the two ends of the spectrum? we have a lot of amazing guys and gals volunteering their time to try and make our careers better. I trust that the negotiating committee and MEC will not send us something terrible, and if We happen to not believe it is in our best interest, We will vote no.
try to treat situations like they are dynamic… It helps in the cockpit and in life too

A lot of you keep acting like the company should just pay everyone a normal amount to do nothing. Darn company! They “chose to furlough!”. They should have “offered a real early out”. Never mind they don’t need over half of us and will lose even more money once Cares runs out. But yeah, they should pay everyone to retire or sit at home.

Then the turd flops out and hits the deck. I don't think its speculation.
Like it or not, we're a bunch of blue collar union workers and we have a contract. The mere idea that we are entertaining ANYTHING at this point in time makes me retch. They have billions now and access to billions more. Hell, there may even be a vaccine in the next 6 to 9 months. Our contract expired years ago! Yet they mictureated away 9B of our rainy day fund while laughing and giving us the finger from their corner booth at Mortons! SUCKERS!
This proposal turns sentiority upside down and divides the pilot group. This proposal turn us into migrant workers and ensures that WE will bail them out at each and every burp in the industry. This proposal opens the door for all of us to earn less money whenever they think it's necessary through reduced guarantee. I don't need to see the final language.

5-J-1-h.
I would bet that the majority (90%+) of our pilots are not aware of this issue.
In that we were blatantly lied to. In the hearing regarding the violation of seat 4B, it turns out that the union sold that seat back to the company to get an extra $50 million towards our signing bonus, during negotiations and BEFORE the TA was put out there.
So instead of a $350 million signing bonus to all the pilots, the 756 pilots added another $50 million to the pot but were not told till afterwards.. that 5-J-1-h didn't 'actually' apply.
Who said it? "Trust but verify"...
(I know, it was RR)
Still holds true today.
And for those of you saying we don't even know if the rumors are true, will.. again, history-
Many of us have been around long enough to know that when certain things are 'leaked' right before the official union announcement, they are usually 95%ish on the mark.
History.. hmm, what a novel concept. Learning from it NOT trying to re-write it.
