Regarding Grandfather rights, would someone who had been out on military leave for a couple of years be able to bid off of one of those previous vacancies that the grandfathered folks initially got their award from, that they are now grandfathering back to, in essence letting the person coming back from military leave jump into any position their seniority could have held, even above someone grandfathered?

if they were able to hold a seat/fleet/domicile listed within a vacancy bid while on Mil leave then they can be awarded it upon return.

If you are a line holder you get LPA.

but if you are lineholder in a Category whose LPA is low, you will only get 35 hours. For example DCA320 FO for November. the LPA was only 15 hours. The G line was deep into the third tier.

Of course.

Correct
you are in a higher pay rate so it’s irrelevant

pilots on virtually any kind of absence are allowed to bid on vacancies. So, you can be awarded something even while on leave and that will be what you return to. EG: after a year on the job, off probation, consolidated, etc., you go on MIL for five years. While away you put in a standing bid for CA anywhere in the system and you are awarded a captain position. so you could return to UAL with 100 hrs of 121 time as a captain on an A/C you’ve never flown. That said, you don’t get to retroactively bid on a previous vacancy. While I can see how that would appear to be fair… It would be difficult on both manpower planning and other pilots who use percentage betting to select their BES

False, there are some wickets you need to hit in order to be able to hold CA. (Hours, term of service). Know several guys on mil leave unable to bid CA because of this.

That being said, once you come back from mil leave you can pick anything you would've been able to hold during your mil service. You will be presented a form with all of the vacancies you were able to hold during your mil leave, and you pick which one you want (or return to your previous seat).

I stand corrected. I guess I wasn’t senior enough to worry about that when I took MIL leave.

Out of curiosity, do you know what the requirements are for a CA bid? 121 time, crew time, UAL time etc?

It was put out a few years back like 2017'ish IIRC. Off the top of my head I think it was 16 months of service (bid months) and like 400 hours at United... but don't quote me on that.

According to the FOM 1.10.3 it says either 1,000 hours as a UA first officer or the listed combo requirements.
