Let's leave truth, reason, logic and statistics out of this. It's the 2020s.

I’m curious if minorities and women are embarrassed by this whole episode. While the woke crowd would lead you to believe they are righting past wrongs, the underlying reality of these programs is usually the racist/sexist attitude that minorities and women can’t compete on a level playing field, hence the need for these “feel good” schemes every few years. In their zeal to look woke, they are just revealing their racist/sexist attitudes.

it was a 757-200. One of the newer ones and was written off. There’s a video somewhere showing it being torn apart and thrown away....very sad.

If I understand the overall frustration and objection to this... I don't think anyone would have a problem if airlines or the entire aviation industry set out to encourage and educate women and minorities to get into aviation and become pilots. I doubt anyone would have an issue if they gave grants and scholarships to women and minorities to back up that genuine interest in making it a more diverse industry. Where I believe the perceived problem is, is with public companies saying they will discriminate against hiring white males and instead hire females and minorities in their place, with a pre set quota, while realistically knowing they will hire less experienced pilots in the name of diversity. That's my take on many of the responses here, but I may be wrong. YMMV.

I am a minority. I'm not angry. When I go to work it's 95% white males. I can count on my fingers and toes the number of minorities I've flown with in over 20 years and I'm sure you can too, if you are an airline pilot. I don't recall reading anywhere that the standards will be lowered for women and minorities. Why are you guys so upset that someone other than white male is getting a chance at a great career. Imagine going to work, every single day and being the only one that looks like you, shares cultural ideas, listens to similar music, likes similar movies, etc.... It has an effect when you have to adapt to the norms of your work environment for years and they are very different from yours. About the only thing I have in common with most of my coworkers outside of happy family, financial prosperity, etc... is flying. The only similarity I can think of would be the NFL or NBA, granted with a lot more money at stake.
If you have 10,000 white male applicants, 500 female applicants, and 500 black male applicants you're likely going to end up hiring similar percentages relative to the number of qualified applicants.
As others have said, females are more attracted to more "nurturing" careers. That's why a majority of teachers, nurses, and flight attendants are females. Nobody is out there creating quotas to have more straight male flight attendants is there?
This baloney all started with diversity programs and now we're going all out and creating quotas. This won't stop because now corporations all feel the need to one up each other. What happened to meritocracy? We're turning into Europe where a supermarket cashier earns the same as an electrician all in the name of fairness.
