“Why are there not many African Americans, Hispanic Americans, etc... who wish to be pilots?” My white liberal friends always keep asking. I’ll tell you why from simple observation. It all based on culture. Plane and simple. I have several minority friends who are pilots. You know what they have in common? They are all conservatives. They have great work ethic. Never wanted any handouts from everyone. The unfortunate reality in our society is that the current mainstream culture talks down on minorities and makes them think it’s “the Man” who is holding them back. This is especially prevalent with people who subscribe to the rap and hip hop culture and other things like that. (Think Cardi B’s song W.A.P etc...)

How did we get to this point? Well you will have to do that research on your own. But in order to improve “diversity” we have to get rid of this current degenerate mainstream culture. That could perhaps move ourselves in the correct direction and may even help prevent the destruction of our country before it’s too late.

my 2 cents

Are you suggesting that if someone is not "conservative" they have a limited work ethic?

I'll take your bait.

If someone votes for today's liberal party, then statistically there is a greater chance they are of the handout mindset. Or of the mindset that every tax paying citizen should give handouts based upon their liberal belief. In terms of hiring quotas, preference is already based upon experience and professional metrics. Altering that to include anything but is just another handout. Keeping the sanctity of those requirements that we as pilots "earned" in this profession through work effort, personal drive, empathy for others, respect of rules and law is what made it what is is today. Exceptions based on race or gender will only introduce disparities and either lower the bar or shrink the pool of talent.

Yep, it's music that's the problem. If you ask me, it's all Elvis's fault.

United has been down this road before, 45 years ago. In spite of their best recruiting efforts, even waiving hiring standards to minimal commercial qualifications, United was still unable to attract the numbers dictated by the EEOC complaint and were sued.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said Thursday that under terms of the settlement, Chicago-based United will offer pilot jobs to 83 applicants and pay $1.7 million in back pay. The agreement stems from a lawsuit EEOC filed in 1988 alleging United had violated provisions of a 1976 consent decree under which it was required to hire more female and minority pilots. The case was filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago.

″We think we have done some good things in this area and attracted a lot of pilots who are minorities and also who are female, and we have a very good record in this,″ the official said. (https://apnews.com/article/6d84f2a4b...70da35a09d9616)

Although perhaps well intentioned, these woke corporate approaches to solve society's ills rarely end well. Whatever the case, the sins of the past will not be remedied by reversing the identity of the victim. Per the Supreme Court, reverse discrimination is still discrimination and in 2003, ruled the use of racial quotas for school admissions to be unconstitutional (Gratz v. Bollinger).

"Discrimination is the act of making unjustified distinctions between human beings based on the groups, classes, or other categories to which they are perceived to belong. People may be discriminated on the basis of race, gender, age, religion, or sexual orientation, as well as other categories."

United Airlines Supports Return Of Affirmative Action In California (2020):

https://liveandletsfly.com/united-airlines-prop-16/

It didn't go over well with the voters of CA (Defeated 57.23% to 42.77%.):

https://ballotpedia.org/California_P...mendment_(2020)

Keep in mind, this was a California only Prop, and did I mention it was in California that affirmative action was defeated in the year 2020 by the voters of California?

This is the type of post us outside observers text our friends about and say "did you see what someone actually said on APC?"

It is racist when race is used as a determining factor. How about giving low income whites this opportunity as well?

Except it is a chance just for women and minorities therefor it's discriminatory. Where's the chance for low income whites? Again, it’s not giving everyone a chance and that is the problem.

It's not 50% of the applicants but 50% of those selected. There's a difference between the two.

That's not a problem exclusive to women and minorities. There's plenty of white males who face the same issues but they're not given the same opportunities.
