It’s ok when it’s directed at the evil white man.....
Absolutely embarrassing comment you’ve made Idlethrust, you should be ashamed.
Let’s evaluate candidates on character over color (gender, religion or sexual preference).

MODS PLEASE CLOSE THIS THREAD.
The world is changing right in front of some of these guys and they refuse to accept it .
Get over it. I’ve had the pleasure of flying with some very fine minority pilots, most of whom do an excellent job , better than most of you pasty bastards and I enjoy being around more so than some of you stuck up no personality racists pricks .
Some of you are just pathetic. I’m glad to see a major co like UA doing something like this and I’ll bet you more will follow .

Oh yeah, is it sour grapes? Haha, you bet. Who is it again working for a company demanding government bailouts for the second time in the last decade while simultaneously begging for voluntary early retirements? Who is it again getting paid a fraction of min guarantee to stay home? Yeah, I’m not the one working for a company that proudly proclaims they will place at least 1/2 if not the majority of their future pilots in their cockpits who’a first and foremost qualification is their genitalia or the color of their skin. You must be very proud of your un-sour grapes

OK, maybe not ‘dirty’ blue-collar, how about white collar? Engineering? Hmmm, Only 13% of engineers are women. Hmmm, Wonder why. Certainly not because women aren’t smart enough as over half of medical and law school graduates in the US are now women (fact).
any chance women are simply not attracted to the idea of becoming an airline pilot? If today’s girls don’t see women populating flight decks, they’re just not looking. Southwest woman, former Navy “ace” saves the day after engine explodes, Female Thunderbird pilots, fighter pilots, etc. Unlike women of previous generations, the information and opportunities are vastly different for this generation.
Isn’t it more likely most are simply not interested? Sadly, there aren’t studies or statistics available for girls that were “encouraged“ to pursue aviation, then become discouraged, dropped out, or stayed, hated the lifestyle and became career FOs to avoid crappy schedules.
The pilot profession looks great in movies and brochures. Most reading this know it can be very tough (Health, families, furloughs, lifestyle, cost, income), and the ones that make it to the big leagues are the ones that wanted it so badly they were willing to endure the pain it took to get there. The rest fall off by the wayside somewhere along the way, or are miserable their entire careers.
it’s not always a good idea to ‘encourage’ people to pursue this lifestyle if they’re not inclined already. Better to let nature take it’s course, and allow those with the drive and passion to do the research (mouse click), to apply. The information and role models are there, if they’re not looking, they’re probably not interested.

Thanks for the reply, Jurgen. The fact that you read my response as “triggered“ says more about you than you might think. That again, you resorted to a stereotype is evidence of your struggle (had to look up “zero hedge“). Assigning people to convenient stereotypes based on categories (age, sex, ethnicity, etc.) is the purest definition of prejudice. It’s not only unfair to those labeled, it’s often wildly inaccurate. You would do your health a favor by becoming a little more open minded, and a little less angry.
“Prejudice is a term used to refer to a preconceived (usually unfavourable) evaluation or classification of another person based on that person's perceived political affiliation, sex, gender, beliefs, values, social class, age, disability, religion, sexuality, race, ethnicity, language, nationality, complexion, beauty, height, occupation, wealth, education, criminality, sport-team affiliation, music tastes or other personal characteristics.”
