The unofficial dress code is whatever the pass riding rules are to sit in FC while pass riding. Way back when, it was more specific like slacks Or khakis. Not any more.

Nice jeans are fine. Show good judgment.

Me, just finished CQLOE, day one wore jeans for the cqtl. Day two wore slacks. Both days a collared shirt.

Bottom line, if you can sit in FC with what you are wearing, you are good.

Nuff said

Default Reserve Time

Could someone provide a pre-COVID average time on reserve for both EWR 737 and 756? I know it’s always a moving target....just trying to get an idea...

And in that vain (and I know I’ll learn this later) is the short call reserve the only option? Do reserve bid on their assignable trips?

You should expect two years reserve for EWR 756 pre covid. Who knows now, but I expect it’s similar.

You start all reserves on long call. You can be assigned a trip, short call or field standby (there are other things, too, but these are 99% of what would normally happen). Prior to the assignment window, you can bid on any of these options. For trips that are unassigned, you are bidding with everyone, lineholders and reserves alike in seniority order. For short calls and field standbys, there is a different priority.

No we do not have short call only lines. In a nut shell, reserve is long call, 12 hours till report time. Sounds pretty good right?

Its not all sunshine and blue sky. You can and will be converted to short call multiple times a month 2.5 hours to show time. And worst of all you can be converted to field stand by, having to be at the airport for 4 hours, also multiple times a month.

So reserve sucks, commuting reserve turbo sucks. Do not think you’ll not get called on short call.. On probation, be in position on short call.

PS

We do have short call only lines in our contract but for some reason they’ve never been utilized.

Disagree, our reserve is pretty good compared to OAL. Does getting converted to short call suck yes? Does getting called to field standby suck? Big time, it’s awful. But it’s hard to beat sitting at home in a different state if unused. That said, there is still room for improvement

Please feel free to bid all the reserve you can. I was stuck on reserve for multiple years, in fact nearly a decade. So yes it’s better than some, I’m completely done with it, hopefully forever.

My point being as a proby do not fool around with short call, be in position or be prepared to face the consequences of possibly finding a new job.

I’d say that’s largely dependent on where you live. Unless you live in a place that has a lot of service between where you live and your domicile, commuting to reserve is untenable. That is unless you like sitting LC in a crashpad. I was always amazed watching people roll in to a flop house in the middle of the night who made north of $300/hr.

Of course, this is just academic. The folks asking these questions will be on reserve whether they like it or not and will be able to form their own opinions based on their specific scenario.
