Absolutely. The max10 and 321XLR haven’t even flown yet. In addition to the A350’s, we also didn’t have the 16,000 pilots they made such a big deal out of. We have lots of scheduled deliveries in the next several years, but as always, don’t count your chickens before they hatch. We do have around 1,000 less pilots than we did a little over a year ago. Just to get back to where we were, factoring remaining attrition, and only using our current fleet, will still require enough hiring to create movement. That is of course providing the newest strain of COVID doesn’t hit hard this fall and put us right back where we were.

Don't want to sound too presumptuous but, what's the time frame to left hand seat at United? Of course, willing to wait my turn, but just curious as my partner and I are looking at moving on from the middle east to the US preferrably SFO based (in-laws are there and it's one flight across the pacific to home for me).
Thanks in advance,
Dookie.

Pre COVID it got into the 4-5 year range in coastal bases. Whether/how quickly it gets back to that point for an individual pilot depends on any number of factors that can change the game between date of hire & the ensuing years.
Based on projected retirements & general industry outlook as a snapshot of today, I’d say a present new hire could anticipate earliest upgrade opportunity somewhere in the 5-10 year range. Of course, as COVID taught us, the things we can’t foresee often have a more drastic impact than the ones we can.

jeans, sneakers, and a normal shirt is fine. There really isn’t a dress code. Be comfy...
if you want a chuckle, find “the man up front” video on YouTube. It’s about what it takes to become a United airlines pilot in the 60’s. Everyone at TK was wearing a suit and tie, iirc.

Kirby has repeatedly talked about increasing gauge. Southwest is expanding in DEN and they are now flying into IAH. Hopefully we use these planes to fight them on level ground. My commute is just one small example, but we are sending CRJ200’s and 175’s up against full Southwest 737’s. If we keep taking knives to a gunfight, the competition is going to stomp us, at least domestically. I’d like nothing more than to see us eliminate the single class 50 seaters, replace the lift with mainline aircraft, and hire accordingly at United.
