The good news is that while we are here arguing about this (we represent less than 1% of our pilot group), the vast majority of our pilots, no matter what/how they feel about the vaccine, are out flying the schedule or on days off not participating in online forum banter (which is where I would like to be as well…). I’ve flown with a couple of people who believe almost 100% the opposite of what I do with regards to all of this and we respect each other’s opinions and get the job done (don’t know if I’ve flown with an unvaccinated pilot yet as I don’t ask). We will move on from this as well. Those who refuse vaccination will march down the road through CPO/HR and find a solution that works for them and the airline.
Big picture here…..we are hiring and adding back capacity in a rush due to the vaccine. Nobody can dispute that. The vaccine, secured by the previous administration for each and every citizen of this country (with a ton of extra to go around) is what has allowed our passengers to come back. I have no problem giving the prior administration credit for operation warp speed. It literally saved industries, to include ours. Even if you don’t want to take the vaccine yourselves, you can thank the people who developed/secured/administered/and took it for your current job security.

Based on the vaccine percentages at UAL, that’s exactly what they are doing.
This is such an excellent point. Thank you.

Without doing any research on the subject, I imagine those vaccines already had FDA approval. UAL has given a timeframe to be vaccinated and stated that it is WITH or WITHOUT FDA approval.

Pfizer shot will be fda approved by early next month.

The military is about to announce mandatory vaccines for all service members.

Many corporations are following suit in the face of a global pandemic. It’s kinda basic science, that a living workforce is more productive than a dead, or sick and in the hospital for weeks workforce.

99.9 % of the workforce is not dead, sick or in the hospital. Most of the .1% who are, retired years ago.
This isn’t about health and safety or workforce protection. It’s about pharma making 100s of billions off of the populace by forcing them into ultimatums.

Is this really a serious concern? Are our pilots actually crazy enough to let someone they disagree with allow CRM, common sense, courtesy, safety, etc go down the toilet? THAT is crazy, and honestly if the answer is yes they shouldn’t be an airline pilot (or in any other field that requires close interaction with humans). We all fly with people we don’t agree with, that’s actually an interesting part of the job that I like and often times makes a long trip better. If people let that detract from acting like a professional, get a new job, they shouldn’t be flying crew airplanes.

No. From the Wall Street Journal; "The timing of United's mandate is linked to the FDA's approval, which airline executives said they expect could come early next month... The requirement will go into effect five weeks after the FDA fully approves the vaccine or five weeks after Sept. 20 - whichever comes first."

And what happens when **** hits the fan as a result of a rushed vaccine 5-10 years down the road? Will the govt. be forced to admit in 10 years that the vaccine approval was rushed and issued pre-maturely? Good luck getting them to pay out anything. Hell, ask the Vietnam veterans how hard it was to get the govt. to even admit wrong-doing in spraying them all with Agent Orange. Now, that they’re all dying, or suffering severe diseases as long-term effects, the govt. has finally admitted silently it was their fault. Did the Govt. do anything to make it right for them? Hell no. It still is an uphill battle to even get the VA (govt.) to admit probable cause of Agent Orange in the veteran’s suffering because of it’s effects. Good luck getting them to give a damn about hundreds of millions of people potentially affected by their hastiness down the road. This will not age well.

Sorry doesn’t pass the smell test. Phrases like under duress come to mind.
You are not comparing apples to apples. You are comparing a despotic government to the free choice that employers have. Employers have the right to run their businesses as they see fit!!!
