I can guarantee the company will be coming after the first class DH seat on the next contract. Then you'll see DH go through the roof.

Based on exchanges and comments from passengers boarding, this benefit will be negotiated away.

Yes. Improve reserve rules via MOU now. What else do we have to do? Wait for a contract for 1-3 years and the next downturn? Seems logical.

Enough of the piecemeal negotiations. We’ll address contractual shortcomings in the next complete contract, but don’t expect reserve rules to be the top priority. They obviously need to be addressed, but when the vast majority of the group isn’t on reserve, they never are.

back to OP’s question… based on your question/follow up it seems to me this industry is not for you.

Im not trying to change your mind, just throwing out my opinion.

To maximize time off, while still employed at United, I suggest taking military leave and take orders for however long you think is sufficient to make your “wife” happy. If not a military person, then get online and get consolidated and then take every single “Empty Line” or SRL or Personal Leave of Absence, otherwise, I suggest you pick up “your sack and do some work for the airline that HIRED YOU TO FLY AIRPLANES!!!!

ps. Welcome to United!

I’ll get 8 hours of block time a day if I can manage it. I’ve got 4 young kids and all I want is time with them. I’ve tried dropping and trading trips that CCS says are legal and I have yet to get a trip traded (I’m trading into open time trips or trips that other guys want to drop). I’ve used BidNav without any success (asked for low credit line, got 89 hours). Maybe this is part of the learning curve? Perhaps this is just the way it is, and my expectations of time away from work are unrealistic? I’m still trying to figure it out, but if I’m away from home 18 days a month, my wife is going to make me find a different job.
Wife will make you find a new job ? Get real and grow a pair . We know who wears the pants in that house . Do you bring your check home and give it to her too?
You obviously don’t realize how fortunate you are to have the job you have and obviously neither does she . Family is important but so is having a well paying job to support that family. If I had to choose between my job and my wife …….well it’s a lot easier to find a new wife .

oof I would hope most would chose the wife. However I think for the vast majority of us that are in good marriages, our wives would never put us in that position and we would find a solution that would make it work. My wife asked if we could get some help for when I was gone a lot, we ended up getting an AuPair. Worked great for us and our situation. Now I’m senior and we don’t need that anymore.
