FAA limited Newark to 79 flight-operations an hour under a Level 2 “schedule facilitated” classification. That 79/hour is a soft cap and and throughout the day the airport was scheduled for more than 79 flights per hour. Guess when those were? The 1600-1900 bank. Guess who over scheduled based on their 73% share? UA.
Scott and Jon Roitman, who was well over his head as COO, created a canard that JetBlue and Spirit, with 5% and 2% of the schedule, were the cause for congestion because UA couldn’t operated at EWR. I get it, I’d blame everyone else too.

No kool aid on my point. I am not going asking about over scheduling which United has been guilty of. I am talking about United reluctance to pull down the schedule if competition is only to come in back fill. United is only trying to protect its market share and hub. If you were in its position, you’ll be reluctant to pull down your schedule if your competitors are only going to come in take advantage.
Now here’s where you tell me I’m wrong because UA publicly said that was the case. Because of course they wouldn’t have an agenda…

To get back to the original topic of this post and looking for input. Currently at WN with ~ 6 months on property. Live in a base that houses a UAL base to the north of it. Have enjoyed my time thus far. But, with 37 years of flying to go, and the current hiring craze, I find myself considering. Have had many a conversation with the better half and just have yet been able to get myself to commit. Any input would be appreciated.

Well, Chicago has unfilled 737 Captain spots. You can upgrade once off probation, if that interests you. Or bid over to the 787 if you want (there’s no 777 in ORD). Or the 756. Or Airbus.
Or I guess just fly the 737 for 37 years.

We are a bit of a mess right now with the contract but the pilot hiring environment means we will at least get the deal DL got so that ought to be resolved sometime soon. So with that taken care of, UAL offers every type of flying under the sun, easy choice imho.
