I wouldn’t think sick pay adjustments have to be a reason for delays or a dealbreaker. I will say there has to be a method to allow those with the high accrual to be made mostly whole. In general, those new or with little, like the DAL plan. I’ve also flown with a handful that said, ‘I can’t work Thanksgiving, I have a family’.

like I said, not trying to cast aspersions. I like the mec but what is the ask? No one knows what we’re shooting for at the line scum level. I speak frequently with my reps and I know them on a first name basis. I get all the updates. I’m not uninformed. Boiler plate ai generated messages about progress or no progress in certain sections does not paint a clear picture about how far apart we are in certain things. We are kind of left to read between the tea leaves about the yes/no moderation question, why we haven’t seen a strike vote yet… considering how the last TA dropped I’m sure you can understand why the pilot group deserves detailed information.

There are so many reasons the negotiations process is not public that trying to enumerate them would take too long even for a loquacious pedant like myself. Suffice it to say most of it boils down to efficiency- it would be much harder for either side to speak candidly in negotiations if we were all watching the play by play.

Whatever the final product is, rest assured it will be better than the company’s offer & worse than the union’s “ask”. Once it is ready, we’ll all get to judge it on its merits. TUMI 1 sucked & we sent it back. We should continue to do the same until the TA is acceptable. We don’t need to tour the assembly line to know whether we want to buy the car.

So as a dues paying, meeting attending, poll taking member in good standing for 23 years I should just assume all is well? Are you friends or acquaintances with the MEC or NC? They carry water for us.

This sounds like people saying that they’re law abiding taxpayers and they should know what is going on at Skunk Works or inside military strategy sessions. Just like our government, there are parts of the union that are publicly accessible, and parts that go on behind closed doors. We elected our reps to do this work. The last bunch failed miserably and were replaced. This new bunch just got started, they seem to be holding the line, so yes, we assume all is well and let them work. Demanding a contract now is premature considering that we just started over. The only way to accomplish that is for one side to cave, and I just don’t see that happening.

Can somebody please enlighten me as to why involuntary Field Standby is something that every other major airline in the country, as well as nearly all regionals, can survive without, but we “can’t”? There seems to be a degree of Stockholm syndrome present in the acceptance and repetition of that company line. This shouldn’t even be a question. And Global Reserve? Every other airline has widebodies. We have more, so we should staff more widebody pilots - enough to cover the operation like any airline. Yet UAL sells us operating with fewer pilots by being able to roll all days off but six in your month, saying it is necessary for the operation of the airline. No - it’s necessary to operate the category with LESS PILOTS, because we all are available for more days. FSB and Global Reserve aren’t “necessary for the United Operation”, they’re necessary for the United to squeeze more value out of each pilot at direct expense to their QOL. Every other airline laughs at us for swallowing the FSB and Global reserve pill. Who can blame them?
