Default Recession Thoughts

Thoughts on UA or any legacy for that matter to withstand the recession the Fed predicted a few days ago? Hiring about to stop? Absorbed due to retirements? Seems like a potential risk to go to the bottom of a seniority list with a faltering economy, or maybe worth it to leave an LCC? Never an easy choice I guess.

Given history, solar cycles and were we sit in that sequence I would be more worried about volcanic ash impacting the industry than a recession.

Your first time facing a down cycle in the industry? Take care of the stuff you have control over.

Do you have fully formed question? Not trying to be rude, but what is it you're asking?

“I think what you're going to see is a multi-year resurgence in travel that's going to continue," Bastian said. "And I don't see anything in the economic outlook that suggests that travel is going to be stalled.”

more so just thinking out loud, gauging sentiment. Obviously if we all had crystal balls we’d be rich.

question:
In the event of a predicted 2 yr recession as the Fed announced, what do you think United’s response would be? Pause hiring, furlough? I know we can’t answer that definitively, just trying to see where the internet is at.

No to worry. Come on in. The water is fine.

1. Furlough protection.
2. No pilot on property will ever pick up open time flying if you are furloughed.
3. Your union will never throw you under the bus to ensure a seniority list integration or contract.

We're not relying much on business travel right now anyway, so a recession shouldn't hurt nearly as much as it did in 2008.

If the news cycle successfully convinces people that they should stay home and watch for more news about a recession, then we should be worried.

The new “shelter in place” motto:

“Stay home, save money”

Is it time to do the proverbial "get your house in order" comment yet?

The most predicted recession ever. Been waiting 12 months now for the recession to show up. And still waiting….
