Recession Thoughts
#11
In my opinion, sooner or later we’ll see another black swan, it’s just part of life, cycles. It could be next month or in 2028.
Nobody can predict the future and no job is furlough safe BUT I think we are really lucky, due to all the insane amount of retirements. If it gets really ugly, I see them freezing hiring and maybe offering more early retirements, but no furloughs IMO.
Recalling pilots creates a ton of training events too, and training departments are already saturated as they are. And retirements are not gonna stop, with or without recessions.

Of course we will see a black swan event. It’s allows the rich to get richer by buying in on the proverbial dip. They provide themselves safety nets and insider info to get out of the way, then ease back in when they can scoop up more value. Textbook. Look no further than Covid.

This. The CEO of Delta probably has better insight than random pilots on APC. Nonetheless no one has the crystal ball. It will be interesting to see what Scott Kirby says tomorrow about it.

Will it tho? Everything that comes out of these guys‘ mouths is complete nonsense. All they do is spew narratives that serve themselves or the shareholders.

shareholders won’t be happy though if mgmt can see a recession / decline in bookings coming and doesn’t do anything about it.

Ed Bastian’s job is to make people feel good about Delta and its future. His comments in this area are not meaningful/useful to this discussion. He’s paid well to be a Delta optimist. (I hope he’s right though.)

We need to step back from our crack addiction to info from mgmt. Let the union engage for us.
