There was never a randomness this past year to United's hiring department bizarrely skipping past plenty of qualified candidates over these no degree, low time, zero to hero ULCC/ACMI scrubs. They don’t want new hire pilots on property who know their worth.
The next step will be matching low costs carrier crew uniforms. Then the real United next, uneducated pilots flying low cost carrier pay rates charging legacy ticket prices. That’s Scotty boys actual definition of “competitive”.

From my personal experience with the bright FO’s I’ve flown with at DL, the pilots who spent some time being abused out of the left seat at some scrub regional have a very strong stance on the importance of work rules. They’re educated and they’ve been through the wringer on scheduling abuse. So when your boss slides in 5am reserve day one, they comprehend the tremendous quality of life grab.

Wish that was the case but there are still NB CAs thinking they’re hot **** for picking up premium at $400/hr during contract negotiations and pilots tripping over themselves to become LCPs for an extra $27/hr…

Once AA regional 50 seat RJ CAs started making $600+/hr and LCAs started making $1200+/hr in premium pay those wells pretty much dried up. Other regionals worked to match pay so UAL started prioritizing hiring from their next best sources of pilots that hurt the competition… AA and DAL regional FOs and ULCC FOs.

I don’t care if you’ve been flying for 5 or 35 years, and if you have a PhD in Astrophysics, be humble.
