For the last 3 to 4 decades, it was a widely known fact of life that if you wanted to work for MAJOR AIRLINE "X", you never went to work for their subsidiary "x". Nothing has changed, really. Well, except for the some of the names painted on the side of the shiny jets.

I didn't get as much of a whisper from United while I was at SkyWest last year.. I was also a new Captain.

I left for SWA in Dec; within a week of updating my current employer on my apps, I had assessment invites from United and Delta. Now firmly planted at UAL on the 787 and couldn't be happier!

I guess there is no way around at this point. I know of some pilots, specifically first officers, flying for other airlines who received the assessment within 3 to 5 days after turning in the application. Furthermore, during summer 2023, the United Hiring Department called me. They told me to submit my application, otherwise, the Hiring Team could not review, and so I did, but nothing changed.

I don't know how this is even a question. Go to the class date for the other major with and keep your app updated. Passing on a CJO with a major waiting for United to call is short sighted. You'll likely get the United interview faster in addition to having a seniority number at major airline as a really nice career insurance policy.

From what I’ve heard third hand, classes are roughly 50 per week and of that 50 per week there might be 1-2 OO pilots…often there are none. So I’d say metering is pretty active still.

Certainly, I am not it staying at OO, no matter what. I was trying to figure out if a M&G or a convention were the only ways to get the assessment or interview prior starting training with the other major. If I can get any of the above only upon leaving, it means that by the time I am done with the hiring process at United Airlines, it may make less sense to jump ship since I will likely be done with my new training.

Thats the name of the game for ya unfortunately. If you want United, that’s what you need to do to…. Otherwise, take the class date.
