Exactly. If I were the Captain and I did this I would just treat it as a donation and community service.

No, according to the wise masters and "guppy" drivers on here, you must do the absolute bare minimum with a frown. You must have an adversarial relationship with your employer, and contempt for fellow coworkers who do anything generous, kind hearted or beyond the black and white of UPA23.

I'm really glad that real life doesn't generally reflect the awful attitude of a select few on here. Good for this captain and it's great to see a good news item about UA in the press. People do notice this type of stuff. It doesn't take a lot to make someone's day better or give them a special memory.

Yeah.....................In addition to gaining followers on your instagram page.

While the Capt In question is obviously not an Instagramer.........it begs the question: if you knew nobody would ever hear about this event be it on the company website, X, or national media.......Would you still do it?

I think we all know the answer to that question

Does not make it wrong or less admirable.....just sayin

If they choose not to reimburse him, he’ll get that money back…. In spades.

I cleaned out the food coolers at a Hudson News a few years ago. Supposed to be a short flight, so no catering. We were going on almost 5 hours due to divert and a long ground delay.

I called my CP and gave a heads up that I going to spend some money. I was given the green light and I made the purchase.

Perhaps reimbursement depends on the CP, but I would do it again if I had to.

You know, there's still a lot of people around who lived the majority of their adult life before social media and really don't use it. And some people genuinely get pleasure from giving to others. I'm not sure what my threshold would be to do something like this, honestly, but social media wouldn't be anywhere in the equation. Plenty of people have done kind, generous things for generations without the expectation or even possibility of likes, reposts, etc. You just don't know about it...

What would be in the equation is did our company take care of the pax that are in a $hitty situation? We've all seen plenty of examples where the answer is no. If not, I'd probably do it. If I don't get or have to fight to get reimbursed, there likely would never be a second time.

No a horrible guy to have.
When people do this it takes pressure off the company to domthe right thing. It's not the responsibility of the captain to do this. His job ended when the parking break was set. Why was he even still there?

I hate clowns like this.

Contrary to our resident know-it all- army new guy, I would too! The issue is that in the past, the company hasn’t held up their end of the bargain. Nobody says don’t be nice. Be careful for the straw men around here, they pop up and try to derail threads!
