His responsibility ended when the parking brake was set.
He shouldn't have done this, it's not his job. All this does is let the company of the hook from their responsibility.
I can't stand it when people do this. Why was he still at the airport hours after landing anyway? Should have long since been at the hotel.

You know, there's still a lot of people around who lived the majority of their adult life before social media and really don't use it. And some people genuinely get pleasure from giving to others. I'm not sure what my threshold would be to do something like this, honestly, but social media wouldn't be anywhere in the equation. Plenty of people have done kind, generous things for generations without the expectation or even possibility of likes, reposts, etc. You just don't know about it....
This clearly is not the first time such a thing has occurred: https://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2014/07/10/330496150/captain-pizza-saves-the-day-but-doesnt-save-himself-a-
slice
He Probably didn't get reimbursed and was earning probably a quarter of what our guy was earning, but he got a lot of intra company publicity from this.
I believe also Capt Malik Senegal did something like this too...........and I am most confident helping stranded passengers was the lowest on his list for reasons to do so.

If I bought food for the people, I'd submit an expense report but wouldn't necessarily expect to get reimbursed. Nature of the business. Probably best to call CP/FODO and see if they'll approve it in advance.
There could be a situation where I'd feel some duty simply by virtue of standing where the buck stops at that moment in time.

Did he physically hold the slices while each pax took a bite? That would be news worthy.
seriously though… if concerned about reimbursement you can call the FODM in advance and float your “core4 plan”… they’ll then add a remark on your trip ID.

The article says they were asked to depart the aircraft shortyly after 5pm.. They were givien a meal voucher for $15.
All the restaurants close at 8 to 830pm.
Appreciate him buying pizzas, but food was available anyway.

If there were some hot chicks in the crowd, that would give me the green light to order pizza AND personally deliver slices to the pax. Know what I’m sayin?

fodm’s don’t have that autonomy anymore. Back in the day they were held in high regard and had broad latitude to keep the operation running. Now an FODM can’t even approve contractual add pay for performing non routine maintenance other than an engine run. So no, an FODM wouldn’t be able to pay this. They’re just a cog in the HR machine now.

I did the same thing. Diverted to BHM because of thunderstorms in ATL, but there was a fuel shortage. It was still early in the COVID recovery, so there were limited food options and they were all closed. After a couple of hours, I ordered a bunch of pizzas. But of course as soon as I did that, we got our fuel and were allowed to go. That experience removed all trust I had in my company to handle an IROP and I made it clear in my report that I would never put my passengers in that situation ever again.
