Yes they do. I get huuuge thank you’s when I tell them I won’t be doing a standup comedy routine, handing out cards, kissing babies, signing autographs, or whatever other cringy crap some pilots think is cool. Most pax just want to be left alone to sleep, eat, watch their movie, listen to their music, or just enjoy the lack of constant bombardment of PA’s.

I’ll do a galley PA if there’s some sort of situation going on and I think it will help make the FAs job/lives easier. As in, there won’t be people getting angry because they want information; or it somehow deflects any blame away from them and gives the people an “authority figure” to hear from.
I keep it factual and honest, because there’s some “event” and people don’t want a comedy routine when they’re already late for [maintenance/weather/Newark].
but 99% of the time, I just use the pa from up front.

There was a hot minute at 9E circa 2019 that the welcome aboard PA was STRONGLY SUGGESTED to be made from the galley. Lasted like 2 weeks before they walked it back. Very few people complied and there was a lot of jokes and clowning of management

Not my deal - I’m a voice from the front type - and I really do think you have to have a certain personality to make it work, but I don’t believe pax necessarily see a face to face interaction as cringey as other pilots do.
All that said, a little goes a LONG way, and I think the majority stray on the cringey side of the fence.

I didn’t see this before it was taken down, but saw it a couple months ago, I believe - truly bad. However, I was on a FC DH once and had a CA doing a galley PA with a smattering of jokes. I sat with my face in my palm, but when I did look around the pax were enthralled - truly loving it.

From: 18%er but I’ll enforce UPA23 to the last period.
