There are no recalls on this LAX bid. I'm not sure where the wires got crossed. CAL recalled all it's furloughed pilots last October. This latest bid is flat! There are no recalls. Crews are being shifted and reduced (large 787 reduction) to cover the new LAX bid. I suspect that there will be no recalls (UAL pilots) at CAL until after the JCBA and SLI are complete. CAL historically DOES NOT hire or train during the summer.

I wouldn't hold my breath for a recall to CAL until the FAll at the earliest...if then. I think the JCBA will be the only impetus for recall/growth. There were pilots recalled in October who did not come back. Those positions have not been filled. It appears to me that the company does not intend to staff them any time soon.

I feel the exact same way. 1437 of us with our chip on our shoulder can have a pretty major impact.

I said this on the old UAL site and I'll say it here:

There is no reason the next recall can't be to the UAL side. None. And don't give me the "well CAL has aircraft orders" crap. Frickin adjust your block hours by 1%, it is completely allowed in the contract. Instead we seem to be stuck in this subservient, self-defecating mind frame. We've been taking this and not complaining for far too long. What next, park a couple UAL 767-200s so CAL exercise a few more 787 options?

And no, this is not a gripe against our CAL brethren, they are along for the ride just like us.

UAL MEC - grow a pair, please! Your lack of action has disenfranchised 1437 of you supposed members.

As was mentioned, we have no one on furlough. The last bid in September/October recalled all of our furloughed pilots.

In any event, we are still two separate operating airlines and as such any recalls would have had to look at our furloughees first until they were all recalled. Any remaining positions would then go to a UAL furloughee. There would have been no way to justify recalling 50/50 as you say given the fact that there are still two separate companies WITHOUT a combined seniority list as of yet. How would a 50/50 recall have worked anyway? What mechanism could have been used to determine that?

I understand your pain and I wish the best for all of us, UAL furloughs included. We need all of you back. It's becoming clear that the company is not going to recall you until they absolutely have to and will do all they can to make the operation work with what they have.

Case in point. The following is from the CAL Flight Operations website.

Bid Notification Posting - February 9, 2011
System Bid 12-05 is open for bidding – February 9, 2011 at 0800 CT
Close Date – February 18, 2011 at 1000 CT
Effective Date – first day of the May 2012 bid period

Overview - Bid reflects the opening of the LAX-737 base. It is anticipated
that the LAX-737 base will open with the May bid period.

This bid also replaces attrition that has occurred since the previous bid and adds positions to the GUM-737 base. It also adjusts staffing for currently projected 2011 flying requirements.


This bid also has sufficient positions to retain all pilots who have returned or are returning from furlough and/or COLA.


The results of this System Bid award will be the basis for subsequent Training Assignment Bid postings which will occur immediately following the award of this System Bid.


The contractual provision for hard period bidding restrictions will not be enforced on this System Bid.


It is anticipated that test award results will be available on eBulletin Friday February 11th, and Tuesday, February 15th.


Please refer also to Pilot Bulletin I-11-010 as well as System Bid General Notes found on the Continental Airlines Flight Operations Web Site for additional bidding information.

Notice the part I emphasized above. The company says this bid is to replace attrition since the previous bid. A couple of points:


1. The last system bid recalled ALL furloughed pilots.


2. Not ALL furloughed pilots are coming back (approx. 110 of the 147). That is about 35 or so pilot positions NOT filled on the last bid when all is said and done.


3. This bid notice indicates more pilots retiring than the last system bid projected. (Amazing how that works!!)


So, we had open positions still unfilled (technically filled on paper) from the recalls PLUS we had more retirements since the last bid and yet this bid is not adding any pilots when block hours are projected to be up, even if just slightly?? That's clear intent, IMHO, that the airline has no intent of adding any furloughed UAL pilots to the operation.


Anyone want to disagree with my assessment, not counting any of the crayon commentators?

The truth of the matter is this; JCBA work rule changes will trigger recalls. Those bids will mostly be to what is now CAL flying and domiciles. Any recalls to what is now UA flying before 2013 will go to the vol furloughs who will be senior enough to hold those bids.

The only thing the MEC's can do for you is get a contract that has the scope and workrules that bring you back ASAP. If they were not working to do that, we would already have a TA and you would not like it.

I hope when it is all said and done, we will have a contract that will make comming back a no-brainer.

Do you mean that pilot group that voted by 82% to give everything away in 2003 and then give another 12% away in 2005? Can you imagine a 777 or 747 capt giving a chit about your career. UAL ALPA will screw its junior people as its has been doing for the many years. "Pull up the rope, I got mine" is the battle cry for UAL ALPA.
