Remember, the update said they'd be calling the top 100 in the senior vol furlough category probably to get a feel for what interest they had and that the top 400 would get the first official "new hire" offers.

I've been "called" basically (declined the offer for a call in an email exchange when offered). Haven't gotten the CAL letter yet but I'm sure it will come soon enough.

Sounds like you're in the window for a letter in the near future.

Frats,
Lee
Lee, I think you are not correct. They are going to send letters for classes to the first 100 and letters for the Guam volunteer list to the first 400. This is how it was explain to me. Two different things. The calls are not official only the letter from CO and your response to it. If Sonora Pass can verify this by letting us know if he/she is in the top 100. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

I was told by Ted that I am 402 on the list and my hire date is 11/15/99.

DR Pilot,

I am not sure of my exact number, but it was #44 per an email from Todd last October when we all thought the CAL slots were just around the corner.

There are two forms included to fill out.

Employment Offer Election Form with a choice to select one of these options;

1. Accept
2. Bypass
3. Military Deferment

This form is due back within 15 days of date (mine dated 15 Aug).

Guam Vacancy Election says;

"I accept a position at CAL in a class beginning 04 October, 2011 as a Guam based 737 First Officer."

Sign and date, due back by Aug 25th, 2011 at 1700 CT.

The basic intro letter states that this is an offer to fill classes in October/November time frame. Not sure how many they sent out.

To bad they can't call everybody to get a yes/no/maybe, so everyone can have a basic idea how it will likely go...

Hope that helps!

SP

I think I will keep it as insurance as well. My current job has turned out better than expected, even though its not flying. I'm too old to commute to reserve and I can't afford the pay cut. I'll wait for a real recall, a real contract, and age 65 retirements to start(only 16 months to go).

Best of luck to you!!

You've actually talked to Ted so you're probably right. I read it differently and didn't look for more clarification. But, my rough wag wasn't far off on the 400 number and hire date apparently.

I know the calls weren't official but rather a fishing expedition. I was pretty sure that 400 letters would go out, however, because the acceptance rate is going to be low.

Time will tell. And best of luck if you're looking to take a slot at CAL.

Frats,
Lee

"Little" off subject...
IF one were to accept, then the UAL "side" furloughed MORE, would you get "bumped" and furloughed? Or would the furloughed UAL person have to wait to be offered, and sit below you on the seniority list at CAL's "side"?
(Did that make sense?)

Off thread a little more but is there a furlough rumor going around UA? Something about parking the 757s and the 319s? Redux in flying about 9.5%?

If you look at the T/A, there is no furlough protection for new hires, including those hired from UA side.

Also per the TA, people who are senior at UAL, remain so on the CAL list. Don't know about what would happen if UAL furloughs again, very ugly to even think about, but it really wouldn't be all that shocking when past behavior is considered.

Parking 97 757's and 55 A319's would probably represent more that 9.5% according to the back of my napkin.

I'm guessing there are a couple bits of info that have "merged" into one rumor.

Phred is going around the CAL system telling the pilots that UA could reduce flying on the 757 and 319 if necessary. Of course, he is also telling the UA pilots that CAL could reduce 767 and 737 flying. Go figure.

However, there is a very real block-hour reduction this fall of about 4.5% systemwide on the UA side. This represents the annual seasonal reduction and also accommodates the very aggressive narrowbody painting schedule that was announced several months ago. Some of the widebody fleets will actually experience a slight increase in block hours so certain narrow body bases will exceed 4.5%.

IMHO, combine Phred's comments with the very real block hour reduction and a new rumor is virtually inevitable.

I heard the same one today in ORDFO. So far nothing concrete.
